The Moon in Deep Winter

Bestseller ranking: 460964

Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Dona (Anju) has not been on KB since 3/3.  I think most of you know that she had a hip replacement on February 20th.  She dislocated the hip and had to go back into the hospital and got home again on the 28th of February.  She posted a little bit each day and the last we've heard from her was last Wednesday.  I'm just asking everyone to please pray for her.  I'm beginning to be very worried.

Keeping everyone else in my prayers today.

Jennifer I will certainly keep your daughter in my prayers. That is a frightening situation!

I have been praying for Dona and hope she is on the road to recovery and not having complications. I know there is a lot of rehab involved.

Praying for all of my OYB buddies. Life is tough but God is good!

Please remember little Kate McRae and her family in your prayers!

Thanks.  I received a phone message from the surgeon that Paul's hip replacement surgery went well.  Took longer than usual because he's big.  He should be back in hospital room by now.  Haven't talked with him yet and will probably wait until tomorrow.  I think he moves to rehab place on Friday.

Best wishes and prayers for Camilla.  Hope the results are normal.

I have an update on little Justin, my friend's ten month grandson who has the tumor on his liver.  He has tolerated his second round of chemo fairly well, although he does not have much of an  appetite (this chemo gives food a funny taste and also makes his jaw hurt.)  They are considering putting in a feeding tube, as he is losing weight. He will also be getting a CAT Scan in the near future to determine if the tumor has shrunk enough to be removed.  This is what they are hoping for.  Please continue to keep Justin and his family in your prayers.  I will be praying for all of your intentions.

Levi is still at home (for now), but he's pretty sick again.  He's going to the doctor today, and his parents are hoping that they don't have to put him in the hospital again.

Levi is back in the hospital Sad  Please continue praying for a full recovery for him.

In the praise department, my friend Kevin who had cancer has finished his chemo and the scan shows he is now cancer-free!

Wonderful news for Kevin.
So sorry to hear Levi is not doing so well.

Dona's cousin posted on Dona's update thread this morning to tell us
Dona is in a rehab facility.  She had to go back to the hospital for an
infection that needed to be treated with an IV.
At least we know she's safe and being taken care of.

Levi is back home again!  He was able to stay off oxygen for 24 hours, so the doctors thought he would be better off at home.  Big praise, although he still needs prayer that he continues to recover.

Kathy - so sorry to hear you are still having problems.  I never took you off of my list, maybe should move you up higher  Wink

I am doing ok, still need prayers.  Doctor is happy but it is going to be a very long process and I am not being very patient.  Can't spend too much time sitting at the computer which really does not help my KBing  Sad  He did say I can walk as much as I want to so trying to do some every 30 minutes, maybe will help my sleeping.

Do want to thank you all for all the prayers because I am not really sure I would be doing this well without them.

Remembering Kate, Levi, Justin and their families over the coming days and weeks;
Dona as she continues to recover and regain her strength;
and Kathy, for some relief from her neck situation.

My breast cancer treatments are completed.  My energy is very close to normal.  My skin is very blistered and
irritating.  I really want to go back to work on Monday, so I'm hoping it clears up by then.

If you all would please add my DF to your prayer list.  In March 2008 he had emergency surgery for a ruptured intestine.  He had to have a colostomy for a year.  March 2009 they reversed the colostomy.  He has been having some pain for about two months, but did not tell me until last week.  (Didn't want to worry me.)  He went to his surgeon on Tuesday.  They scheduled a CT scan for this Saturday.  He's worried he's going to have to go back to the colostomy.
Any prayers would be much appreciated.

Definitely will add him to my list.  Several years ago I had a colonosopy and it was so bad they scheduled surgery and just took the whole thing out!  Actually I think this is worse than that was!  Recovered from that very nicely, but they are doing such wonderful things now that worries should be the least of your problems.

Conserve your strength so you can put in a good days work!

Kate is in God's hands, hopefully he will hear us.

Linda, I've been calling my finance, my DF.  It never occurred to me that should be father.
I continued to call him my boyfriend after we were engaged, and I think it was Ann that pointed
out he should be called my finance.  Anyway, sorry for the confusion.  It is my boyfriend who
is going through the situation.
Thank you for the prayers.

Hello my dear Friends and Prayer Warriors. I finally got internet service back and it seems to be working much better than the old service. I was hoping to spend some time on KB today but my dear sweet father passed away last night and I will be spending much of today helping my mom make final arrangements. Please lift my mom, Sue, in prayer as she is having a difficult time (and me, too).

I love you so much and have been praying for you all daily even though I have not been online with you. I will check back in when I can over the next couple of days.

Thank you.
