Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

Sjc, great news your ultrasound. Loved the story about the man who helped you. There's a lesson in that story for all ofmus to remember.

Sort of like after the movie:  Everyone was saying "We should all have a little bit of Forrest Gump in us."  I wish that man (Mr. Newman) could know how he affected and effected me and others that I tell that story to.  Wherever he is; I will say a prayer of thanks right now for him.

You'll do fine, Angela. I have no doubt.

Thanks Jeff! and thanks to the rest of you too! The day was pretty good. I didn't really feel like I got a lot done, but according to my supervisor I did great! Smiley  I will only be working 1-2 days a week with hopes of being able to step into a part-time position by next semester, which hopefully will lead to full-time employment by the time the DH takes his early retirement. The college has excellent benefits and that way he can do contract work and be on my insurance. Our goal is to have him here living with me full-time in 18 months!

Great News sjc!! I am still waiting on results that I probably won't hear until next week.

OK, I am so tired I can hardly keep my eyes open. I think I will go ahead and call the DH so I can tell him I love him and good night and go pass out! Have I told you guys lately how special you all are to me??  Cheesy  Well, you are!

SJC...I am so thrilled that your ultrasound came back good. Thank you for sharing your story. You're right that I don't pity myself. I understand all too well that it could be worse. I have a brother-in-law that has been a quadriplegic for 32 years. I will admit that I do have my kinda feel sorry for myself days and am just completely aggravated that my knee won't do right days.  Wink

Angela...Glad to hear that your first day back was good.

Prayers and love to all.

They put my mom back on the ventilator last night. her oxygen levels weren't staying up and her lungs were filling with fluid. They think her sternum was broken during CPR. She's having a CT scan this afternoon. Hopefully we'll know more soon.

I wish I had better news.

Heather, I'm sorry to hear about your mom's setback. Hope the CT scan will show something that will allow the doctors to take care of her problem. Hang in there.

Well, I certainly hope that it is to do something wonderful for YOURSELF.  You are an asset to this thread and these boards.  Stay safe...see you when you return...YOU will remain in our prayers.  All the best.  sjc

I'm taking off for the day myself to spend it with my sis and her friend Mark.  I need a day away from DH.  He is smugly annoying me.  I'll be back tonight.

ALL:  Stay safe, stay positive, stay strong....PRAY.  sjc.

Heather, I'm praying that the doctors find the cause of the fluid and the other complications. I know it's frustrating and uncomfortable for her.

Angela, all the best in your new position! Congrats!

Rita, hang in there. My twin sister is in pain constantly because of a degenerative back disease. She's on so much pain medication. My poor sister called me this morning to say that  the doctors want to ween her from the pain meds and start over. She's really afraid of the level of pain she'll have.

Please, please pray for my sister.

Thanks Deb and Heather. I know they have to do something. She's on a pills and a pain patch. But, she's still in a lot of pain.

Heather:  Maybe that is the best choice at this time.  If what she was already doing isn't improving her situation; maybe it is best to start fresh with a new approach.  I am praying for her, you and your whole family.  Sending hugs and hopefully healing your way.  sjc
