I thought that if you had a kindle with 3g that you could download via 3g for $0? Hmm, perhaps this charge is only for sending documents to the kindle via 3G?
If you buy books from Amazon you can download them any time for free, whether via WiFi or 3G.
If you're sending your OWN stuff to your kindle and it's delivered via 3G, Amazon will charge you. You can prevent that by sending it to the @free.kindle.com address OR by setting your document charge limit to zero. That will cause it to go via WiFi even if you send it to the regular @kindle.com address. It also means you will NOT be able to download personal documents while out and about and on the go because you've not authorized them to charge you to do so.
Though, I should say, that it is possible with the change in how personal documents are maintained, you might be able to download something you had
previously sent and that they're storing in the cloud for you. See the 'personal documents' section of MYK. But I am not completely sure about that.
