Geemont, I just finished Faithful Place and can say that you are 2 for 2. Generally, I am not a big fan of mystery novels because they tend to follow a similar pattern, person gets killed, detective is called in, killer is there but no one would suspect who the killer is, detective follows the clues till he solves the case, confronts the killer and gets him arrested. While this story follows a similar pattern the difference is that Tana French includes the complex emotional involvement of the detective, Frank Mackey, and successfully weaves the past with the present. I felt his ambivalence to his family, his childhood and a past he couldn't let go of. I really cared about these people and that is where Tana French succeeded. She took a traditional genre and made it fresh and interesting to read.

LauraB, I decided to go with The Stupidest Angel. I was starting to get into the other book by the time I finished the sample, but Angel was what I needed now most: something silly and lighthearted and fun.  I'll probably end up checking out the other book later, though. Anyways, I really enjoyed it! I did have some reservations when I first started, but by the halfway mark I was pretty much charmed. I definitely LOL'd. Thanks again for the pick! |

I'm glad you liked it. I think it's a good example of what a mystery novel can be. Her character seem like real people with real issues and problems. ***** On an other note, I've started last month's "Official" selection, Gone With the Wind. I'm about 14% into and still have 16,000 locations to go.  So far I'm enjoying the writing, the ambience, and the lush detail. Modern authors would be told to pick up and pace and action, which is a pity, because I think there is beauty in its slowness. However, I want slap Scarlett. |

I'll take "Will Grayson, Will Grayson" (I have already read "The Hunger Games" and loved it.) I'm not sure how much I like the alternating viewpoint style of story telling, but I'll definitely give it a shot. Thank you!

Oh, and I think we're planning on buying Daughter of the Blood now after reading the sample. This has been quite a productive book klub for our account!!  I saw this picked for somebody else and found it interesting, based on all the comments about it. I finished it the other day - I thought the first half was kind of hard to stick with, since there are so many places, people, and situations to absorb... but by the end, I couldn't stand to not know what happened, so now I'm 83% done with the next in the series. So, thanks for picking this for somebody else!! I enjoyed it!  |

It was originally a trilogy and then she added on more books after that. Dreams of Flesh and Tangled Webs (and maybe one more) which I haven't actually read yet. The Invisible Ring is actually a pretty nice prequel to the series as well |

Emily , I have finished 33AD and am now a quarter of the way through game of thrones.I really really enjoyed 33AD but i was a little dissapointed by the ending.It just seemed to stop but other than that i thought it was an excellent book which was nicely written and held my interest all the way through.So much infact that i recommended it to my brother As for Game of Thrones well i am well and truly hooked its awesome so far Thanks again Peter |

OK so I finished Romance Novel. I went ahead and finished reading it even though I said I wouldn't. I just hate to stop reading a book even if I don't like it. It nagged me to finish it. While I didn't enjoy the book it was something that I agreed to do. I probably will not read this author again.

I decided to read The Silence of Trees by Valya Dudycz Lupescu. I was 40% through the book when life became crazy. The only book reading time I have had since is listening to audio books while driving. I hope to get back to the book soon.

Hi Tripp,
I enjoyed reading The Silence of Trees by Valya Dudycz Lupescu. I think the author used the flash backs, reminiscences, and connections to current events in the protagonist's life very well. I know it took me a long time to get back to reading the book but story made an impression on me so I did not need to reread more than a page when I picked it back up. This is definitely a book I would not have found on my own. thank you very much for recommending it to me.
