Hi i have recently bought a kindle 3 and i am wondering if there is a fault when charging, when i charge the kindle from my electricity outlet the light is not turning to green after its been in overnight, also i notice when it's on usb charging there is a battery icon along with a usb connector on screen and above it it says usb drive mode along with words telling to if you want to read or shop on your kindle etc etc etc (which i take is the default when you first plug into usb port). Is this meant to default into a similar screen when it is charging from my socket ? because it just stays on whatever page it is left on and does'nt revert to a page explaining what to do like it does on usb. (But this is possibly because you are still allowed to read while it's charging ?).
I do notice the battery icon when it's on my home page is greyed out with a charge thru the middle of it when it's charging via socket which looks like its fully charged and when it's unplugged it looks like the batts fully charged yet the light remains orange/amber when it's been in overnight and does'nt turn green via the socket charging or when it's been on usb charging for hours ?  any info on this would be truly grateful thx in advance

Hi i have recently bought a kindle 3 and i am wondering if there is a fault when charging, when i charge the kindle from my electricity outlet the light is not turning to green after its been in overnight,

It would be worth trying the charge during the day and keeping an eye on it. I've heard it said that sometimes the charging light goes green when fully charged, but when it's left for a long time it goes amber again. If you charge it during the day and it doesn't ever go green then this is a problem.

also i notice when it's on usb charging there is a battery icon along with a usb connector on screen and above it it says usb drive mode along with words telling to if you want to read or shop on your kindle etc etc etc (which i take is the default when you first plug into usb port).

Yes, it will do this every time you plug it into your PC. It is not only charging, it also has a USB data connection to your PC which is how you transfer files to it.

Is this meant to default into a similar screen when it is charging from my socket ? because it just stays on whatever page it is left on and does'nt revert to a page explaining what to do like it does on usb. (But this is possibly because you are still allowed to read while it's charging ?).

No, it won't do this when charging from the mains because there is no data connection.

I do notice the battery icon when it's on my home page is greyed out with a charge thru the middle of it when it's charging via socket which looks like its fully charged

The battery icon has a lightning charge on it whenever the Kindle is connected to the mains, it does not necessarily mean it is charging.

and when it's unplugged it looks like the batts fully charged yet the light remains orange/amber when it's been in overnight and does'nt turn green via the socket charging or when it's been on usb charging for hours ?  any info on this would be truly grateful thx in advance

If it definitely is never turning green then you have a problem. Contact Kindle Customer Services http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,73465.msg1181468.html#msg1181468

If it does seem to be fully charging, even if the light is not turning green, I'm not sure I'd worry about it.  The problem might just be the light, not the charging circuit.  But it does bear watching. . . .
