Nicely done! Link: http://www.slipperybrick.com/2009/05/wood-amazon-kindling/Update: this item is for sale now on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170331750580. Current bid is $61. The witty writeup: Say Hello to the Kindling, the incredible palm-sized wireless reading device.
Slim: Just 1/4th of an inch, thinner than most quesadillas.
Lightweight: At 4 ounces, lighter than a typical Zippo.
Wireless: Start reading anytime, anywhere; no monthly fees, service plans, or hunting for Wi-Fi hotspots
Incredible Display: Reads like real paper; now boasts 2 shades of gray for clear text
Uses no batteries or electricity; observe it for days without recharging.
No need to shut it off during air travel
Storage: Holds 900 bytes of information (about 120 words)
Made of plywood, a material often featured in Extreme Makeover Home Edition
Complete lack of functional buttons.
Also makes a handy cutting board.

If it had a neat poem or something for the screen, I'd be tempted to bid.

It has a page from the Count of Monte Cristo laser-burned into there.
If they took orders for customizable love letters, or sonnets, they'd probably sell hundreds of these.

Oh, sure -- it's pretty and all that -- but how about more contrast? Come on -- with today's technology surely that text can be darkened a bit. And where's the backlight?

Better buy one fast. How long do you figure until Amazon hits him with a cease and desist? It's fun and I really want one and would hope amazon would have a sense of humor about it, but he has to be infringing on all sorts of trademarks... not to mention now he's making money off it.

i can just see random house suing to disable use of this since it's made of the same material as their book pages.
very nicely done though. it would be nice to see if he can make them in various other woods. alas i would agree amazon may be coming after him before long.

I guess sun fading won't be an issue with this one. Hey, you're right. Maybe I should get it. That way I would be assured that #6 wouldn't fade; too bad I already asked Amazon for another replacement. And the Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite book so I could sit outside and at least read one page.
