Yeah it is suspicious, as there was a thread about this happening a few months ago to someone else but they had returned excessive amounts of stuff back to amazon when the account was shut down. I can see why amazon did it. I don't think this is a common issue as amazon is a  really great company with excellent customer service, but the potential is there if your account gets hacked then it all goes bye bye. I had an issue with Itunes  a few months ago when I was changing the address on my account because I moved. Well something happened and then all of a sudden I couldn't access my account at all. Because Itunes only has email support, it took a long time and many threatening emails to them to get them to fix it. basically without Itunes, my ipad would be useless as I wouldn't be able to get apps or update existing ones. I suppose I could jailbreak it which is intriguing, but just haven't gotten around to it. All said, I know waht it is like to feel like your content is taken hostage as it sorta happened to me. Plus I had a hundred dollar gift card on that account! I now don't buy music or books there, just apps. I treat Amazon unfortunately like they could do the same, and that is why I back everything up myself. I feel better knowing that my stuff is mine and not at the mercy of the companies.

You can save them as is to your computer in a folder and just use them on the one device, with DRM intact. Save the books from amazon and use the transfer via USB button.
Removing the DRM really isn't that difficult with the right programs, but we aren't at liberty to speak of them on the public forum.

I'm sure the how-to on stripping DRM isn't supposed to be discussed here but isn't that hard to find out. It ain't rocket science. As far as saving to your computer, I save all mine to my computer (with or without DMR, it doesn't matter) so they will be backed up. I have an automatic backup which everyone should. I let mine lapse for a short time and it caused me no END of problems.

JRTomlin, I am sure its not rocket science...as long as you can read instructions, you can do just about anything these days.  There are a lot of "experts" at everything these days, doing stuff they have no business doing.

Ensuring that you are able to read the books that you paid for is as much your business as is breathing.

I still don't feel like I have the full story of what went wrong for the OP and it doesn't look like they returned to clarify things beyond the first, very upset sounding post (also their first and so far only post ever).

We don't and we are not going to get it.

The few stories that I have heard indicate that when a persons Amazon account is hacked, Amazon will shut down the account. Once the account is shut down you will not have access to anything in the account, including MP3s, audi books, videos, and ebooks. Amazon will not move those items to your new account.

It is rare but it does happen.

Given that the OP has not come back to respond to questions, I think the discussion has run it's course.  Accordingly I'm going to lock this thread.

To the OP:  if you have further news or information you'd like to add, send a PM to any moderator and they can unlock the thread for you.
