Imagine if the things we struggle with in life came from a realm that is unseen and unheard, but very, very real. When Alex dies from leukemia he is given the choice: move on to heaven or stay and join the eternal struggle between good and evil. The Other Side is an exciting coming of age story that blends action with a search for purpose. “ A story full of rich imagery and great detail – the sights and sounds clear to the reader with every word.” Dana Britt author of the blog Windows Wide Open http://mywindowswideopen.wordpress.com/2011/07/27/from-fantasy-to-parenting-bold-new-reads/

This story was really a merger of two separate themes, one being the adventure/strategy which is obvious, the other is the idea that so many people never discover what they were created for. I'm a big believer in the idea that we all have something we were tailor made to do, but unfortunately, life often gets in the way. We sometimes settle for doing all the urgent things like picking the kids up and running them to their next activity, doing dishes or paying the bills, that we never take a chance to pursue what really fires our passions.
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - Mark Twain
I wanted this book, and specifically the main character Alex, to begin a journey to discover who he really is.

What an incredible premise. I love it. I do have a question though - if he chooses to return to join the eternal struggle between good and evil, does that mean that when he comes back, he'll have new powers, or that he'll be able to see something regular mortals can't? The world he leaves must not be the one he would return to (metaphysically speaking).

Yes, he has powers but they are an extension of his talents and abilities as a mortal (although Alex never had a chance to discover who he was in life, since he was struggling with cancer for most of it). The cool part, in my opinion is that he has to discover the power, it isn't just given to him, and he doesn't actually leave our world, but instead enters a "spiritual" dimension that is part of our world that we can't see or hear, but that can influence us. I'm trying not to give too much away, but would be happy to keep the conversation going.

If you've never thought about what's going on behind the scenes during the critical moments of your life, this book will make you stop and think. It's spirituality meets urban fantasy. I would love to hear your thoughts on the crazy moments of your life.

Young Adult novels are really just regular books for people who haven't accepted the boring nature of the real world.

I get asked if The Other Side is a "Christian Novel" and the answer is no. It has a lot of Christian themes, but is not theologically correct. Instead, I just took an idea and created a story where spiritual forces battle and influence out world.

This book has gotten great reviews. While it plays in the popular Angels & Demons subgenre, it is very original. Check it out today!

Angels battling demons may be common fare, but where do human souls figure into the mix?

Thank you Susan, I thought the concept was fun which is why I wrote it. I like the idea of these eternal powers of good and evil influencing what we face in the physical world.

Nice subject line, you got me!
(I need someone like you as my pr/blurb person!)
If I had a choice: I'd choose Hell, where all the interesting people, including Christopher Hitchens and Mark Twain, would be. Or Heaven with real women and no harps, no fairies. (Sorry, that's my personal prejudice.)

I hear you Richard, but what if those weren't the only two options? What if you had the chance to make a difference and really discover who you were meant to be? Would you move on or would you join the struggle to try and bring a little more light to the world?

Books about the after-life will always be intriguing. Simply put, death is an unknown, and because humans tend to have a fear of the unknown, we also have an insatiable interest of the unknown. I like the originality I'm seeing here...

It's a great question, one that I've thought a lot about. If Heaven could promise me chocolate, wine and Johnny Depp lookalikes I think I know my answer Good luck with your book. Anette x
