drenfrow,
I finished listening to
Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague and I enjoyed it very much. Although some reviewers complained about the ending, I thought it was fine. I like historical fiction so this book really wasn't out of my comfort zone, but I hadn't heard of it and thus appreciated the suggestion. Thanks!
Meanwhile,
The Phantom Tollbooth remains half-finished on my Kindle, but I'll get back to it. My distraction? If people remember, back on August 1st, Tripp recommended
Assassin's Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy). Now, seven weeks, six books, 4100 pages, and 65,519 locations later, I have finished the series.* While some reviewers complained that the books went downhill as the series progressed, I disagree. I thought it got better and better. The last book had everything: magic, dragons, glaciers, a prince falling in love, intrigue, separations, reunions, lots of court life, romance...you name it, it was in there. I was sobbing at the end, both for the happy ending as well as being sad the series was over. I am amazed at how much I enjoyed these books especially since I am fond of saying that I don't read fantasy and I don't read books in a series one after another. In that way, these books were way out of my comfort zone but I loved them. They are definitely on my top ten list for the year. Thank you, Tripp, for this suggestion.

*It's not completely accurate to say that I have finished the series. There are three books in the
Liveship Traders Trilogy which apparently take place in the 15 years when Fitz/Tom Badgerlock is living a quiet life in his cabin. There are lots of spoilers in the
Tawny Man series about what happens in the Liveship Traders, but I may read them anyway. I don't particularly care about spoilers. I'll report back...LOL.
