imallbs,

I have finished The Lost Fleet : Dauntless and whilst it was an easy and enjoyable read it kind of confirmed my views on why I don't enjoy science fiction.Warp Speed 10 two degrees up and three degrees down for me personally is too technical and detracts from the story.Whilst I appreciate others may love that attention to detail for me its information overload .

Thanks for the recommendation tho

drenfrow,

I finished listening to Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague and I enjoyed it very much. Although some reviewers complained about the ending, I thought it was fine. I like historical fiction so this book really wasn't out of my comfort zone, but I hadn't heard of it and thus appreciated the suggestion. Thanks!

Meanwhile, The Phantom Tollbooth remains half-finished on my Kindle, but I'll get back to it. My distraction? If people remember, back on August 1st, Tripp recommended Assassin's Apprentice (The Farseer Trilogy). Now, seven weeks, six books, 4100 pages,  and 65,519 locations later, I have finished the series.* While some reviewers complained that the books went downhill as the series progressed, I disagree. I thought it got better and better. The last book had everything: magic, dragons, glaciers, a prince falling in love, intrigue, separations, reunions, lots of court life, romance...you name it, it was in there. I was sobbing at the end, both for the happy ending as well as being sad the series was over. I am amazed at how much I enjoyed these books especially since I am fond of saying that I don't read fantasy and I don't read books in a series one after another. In that way, these books were way out of my comfort zone but I loved them. They are definitely on my top ten list for the year. Thank you, Tripp, for this suggestion.

*It's not completely accurate to say that I have finished the series. There are three books in the Liveship Traders Trilogy which apparently take place in the 15 years when Fitz/Tom Badgerlock is living a quiet life in his cabin. There are lots of spoilers in the Tawny Man series about what happens in the Liveship Traders, but I may read them anyway. I don't particularly care about spoilers. I'll report back...LOL.

kaotickitten,

I'm slowly working my way through Little Women. The sentence structure and syntax plus the super descriptiveness is making it hard reading. I'm about 10% through and working on it little by little, lol.

This reminds me why I haven't read a lot of classics, they are just very difficult for me. Thank you for the recommendation and I will let you know how I feel when I finish.

Just so you know, it isn't a failed recommendation, it will just take me longer to read Smiley

I see your point.  This one has more technical jargon than any other space opera I've read (not a really long list) so probably wasn't a good choice for someone not into science fiction.

Leslie, I am so glad you liked the series.   Grin   I just got The Golden Fool from my library yesterday.  (had the durn thing on reserve for 3 weeks).  So you are ahead of me.  I am so glad you rated this so highly.

BTW, I totally knew you would love the fool.  Of course, he is a great character and who wouldn't love him?

I understand. I think classics can be harder to read and unless you read them alot than you are not as used to th syntax. Also that can take you out of the story's setting.  I have been tring to read war and peace for over two years now and still only 200 pages in. So its no big deal. Also I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to give up and come back to it later.  Some boks you just have to put down and read something else for a while.

Basilius, I have finally finished listening to The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon due to two and a half week vacation interruption.

This was definitely a book I would not have found to read without your recommendation. I enjoyed it very much. I was surprised at how well the parallel events in the stories within the book worked. I was not surprised at how easy it was to get immersed in the story after being away from it for over two weeks.

Thank you for your recommendations!
