The current active content all either use the keyboard or the 5-way controller to play the game.  When I click available on these devices under EA Solitaire it says it only works on Kindle Keyboard, KDX, and the K2.

Will this affect your decision to buy a new kindle?

I'd venture to say that we'll be seeing game apps for the Kindle Fire, I'm not so sure about the other Kindles though.

Won't affect me, as I don't play any games on my Kindle.

I don't play games on my kindle but I bet the people who wrote the apps are working on a way to make them work on all of the kindles ..

I'm not sure that means games won't run on the new Kindles. It could just mean that the game-makers haven't updated their pages yet!

I play a lot of games on my Kindle, but I'm still considering an upgrade. If the new Kindle play my old games, that'd be nice. But I'm even more interested in finally playing some games that are touchscreen-enabled.  Using the five-way controller really limits the "interactivity" that you can have with a Kindle game. But if you can just point at the part of the screen where you want the next action to occur, that'll make the games much more enjoyable...

Oh, and besides being touchscreen-compatible, the games you can play on the Kindle Fire will also be in color!

I can't wait to see what the developers come up with...

$79 kindle and word games-
Have any of you owners of the new Kindle tried any word games (Every Word, Shuffled Row, Hangman etc.) with it?
I wanted to give a gift of the K but I understand the recipient is looking forward to playing "word games" on it. and I'm not sure how that would work with out a real keyboard.

Apparently, many of the games don't work on this version. Hopefully the app developers are working on a fix for them.

I just went through my active content games.
Ones that will not download to my daughter's $79 Kindle include:
Shuffled Row
Black Jack
Video poker
Word Soup
Flashcards: Alphabet & Spelling (this one is a sad no.. $79 kindles would be great for kids to learn spelling & the alphabet.)

Active content games that WOULD download to her Kindle:
Everyword
Everyword:crossings
Minesweeper
Numberslide
Dots & Boxes
Thread Words
Pixel Perfect Puzzles
Jigsaw words
Pirate Stash
Grid Detective.

I've never played a game on any of my kindles. I've loaded them when they were free, but never tried them. I guess when I have my kindle in hand I am ready to read. I have an iPad if I feel like playing games, which really isn't all that often. I bought the $79 kindle and love it, so no, it didn't influence my decision to buy it.

I'm a reader. Please don't tell anyone. I'd hate to be shunned. I can pretend to play games on my Kindle or put it up to my head and scream so people will think it's a cell phone but if they find out that I actually read I'll be in trouble. Reading is as subversive as buying raw milk.

I placed an order for the Kindle Fire.
But I want it for a media player - bigger than my Zune and a real reader.
I will assess apps for it when they are made available.
But I would still want it with No Apps.

Just sayin.....

When a new device comes out, developers have to test it before adding the new device to the list. I know when I develop mobile apps, it might take a few days (or weeks) to make sure everything runs properly. Otherwise, there might be a lot of complaints that the app won't run. Sometimes, apps will run without needing an update (just a test run). Other times, you have to account for changes in screen resolutions, input methods, and OS revisions. Since the new Kindle doesn't have a traditional keyboard, it may take a little longer to accommodate that.

Nah. Should I choose to pick one up, it'll be primarily for reading.  I like having some of the active content stuff on my K3, but it's there for fluff and a way to entertain and educate kid.

Btackitt- Thanks for your detailed answer. Looks like sufficient word games to keep her out of trouble. Just ordered it.
