Uploading a Profile Photo

How do I upload a profile pic?

I can see how to edit my profile, but not how to add a picture.

It's a common question, and to help clarify this I added a note last night to the Profile Page that indicates that at least one post must be made before your profile can be edited.

Hi. I'm having trouble uploading a new profile pic. My old one disappeared when I tried uploading the new one, but the new one isn't there. I've tried using three different browsers. Also, yesterday, I changed my signature and it appeared to take on the profile page, but when I came back today, it was gone. I reentered it and again it looks good now. Don't know what I'll find tomorrow.

It looks like you uploaded a picture from your hard drive, so I can't take a look at it and see if there is a problem.  A couple things you can try--one is make sure that the image is already sized down.  Off the top of my head, I think the max height is 160 pixels.  Try resizing it using your graphics software.  Or, you can upload it to an online photo service like Flickr or Photobucket and I can help you.

Not sure what the problem you're having with your signature?  However, having just checked, you were within 3 characters of the max 1000 character limit, at which point things get kind of weird.  I've changed our affiliate code to a shorter version to allow you more character space.

Betsy, you're a genius AND a sexy quilter! Thank you. Changing the photo size to 160 did it. If there is a direction that says that, I didn't see it anywhere. Seems like it would be an easy addition. My signature seemed to have stuck this time. Not sure what you did to change the character count, as it still appears to max out at a 1000.

I can't change the maximum; however, I did edit the affiliate codes to an alternate version that is a few characters less to make sure you're not hard against the 1000 limit.  I think, as I recall, you have 23 characters remaining now.

Will look at the instructions for avatars to see where I need to add that instruction.  The image doesn't really need to be a maximum of 160, that's the max size that displays.  If it's close, the software can resize it automatically, if the original image is too large, the system software hiccups.    So resizing the image frequently helps.
