Lunch in Laguna Beach....shopping...I would never make it to the library. I did check the Los Angeles County Library site and they do allow all California residents to check out books...physical or e-books. I'm wondering if they would accept a San Diego County library card. More research to be done.

It would be a day trip...I may just have to take a drive.

Alice, if you live in San Diego County, this may be of interest. Camarena Memorial Library (Calexico), Carlsbad City Library, Chula Vista Public Library, Coronado Public Library, El Centro Public Library, Escondido Public Library, Imperial County Free Library, Imperial Public Library, and Oceanside Public Library are all part of Serra Cooperative Library System. These are city libraries (separate from the San Diego County Public Library system). If you get a library card at any of those city libraries, you can use that to check out ebooks through OverDrive.  Follow this link for individual links to each of those city libraries.

You can also join the Free Philadelphia Library online for $35 per year and you don't have to live in Pennsylvania.  Their hold lines are fairly long, but it is still a great deal for the price.  I even use their Freegal service that allows 3 free music downloads per week from the Sony music catalog.  Have been adding music to my library each week and have added a couple of free albums already.

Dang it - I keep forgetting about the Freegal music!  I think I downloaded a handful of songs & then just forgot about it.

I usually check my 2 libraries that I belong to every couple days to see what new books have been added in ebooks and today I noticed in both libraries that a lot of the new books that have been added do not have a kindle option! Since it became available to borrow books and I've searched thru the libraries, I've found that most books were available on the kindle, with only a few not. Today's list seems to be about 50% that are not available on the kindle. Just wondering if something may have changed or maybe it's just a rare occurance that I just happened to notice. I hope it's not a trend...Sad

Just a heads-up: That e-mail is easy to miss. You don't get an automated e-mail after you sign up (as you probably already figured out). Someone there manually accepts you and replies. It won't come from "Alachua County Library." It'll come from the name of a person that works there (I don't want to broadcast her name over the internet for privacy reasons) and the subject header will be something generic like "E-card request." I almost deleted it without reading, thinking it was spam. Thankfully, I clicked and saw what it actually was.

Thanks for the information. I'll check them out. I renewed my card but it was for the City of San Diego Public Library. They are not even part of the County Library. If I didn't have to go in person to apply, I would get cards from all the libraries listed. I'll let you know what I am able to do.
