I've pre-ordered a Touch and Fire for myself.  My Christmas list is very short.  My BFF is an avid reader and has a K2.  She asked if I was getting a new Kindle.  She said she can't really afford it.  So I want to get a Touch for her for Christmas.

Optimal would be me placing order and having it delivered to her just before Christmas.  That's not likely to happen.  Maybe I should just pre-order hers now and have it delivered to me?  Or can I wait a while and still get it delivered to me or her before Christmas?  Anyone have any ideas considering how ordering and delivery of new upgraded Kindles has gone in the past?

If you preorder it, it will show up sometime around Nov 22nd.

As long as it doesn't sell out there's no reason you couldn't order it before Christmas and have it shipped to her. But you do run the risk of it selling out with that option. It's happened in the past.

Personally, I'd order it now and just hold on to it until Christmas.

One thing about waiting a bit longer to order her Kindle (which is an AWESOME gift!) is that closer to Christmas, Amazon has their extended return policy. If you got it mid-November, the 30-day return policy would be up mid-December.

Anything purchased after November 1st can be returned until January 31. (at least that has been their holiday return policy in the past)

I'd order it now & hold on to it. I ordered my first Kindle during the Christmas rush last year & the delivery time was very up in the air, so I doubt you could time it the way you'd like to unless it's in your hands

Don't forget to mark it as a gift so it doesn't come registered to you.

Yeah go ahead and pre-order it. I'd rather pre-order it than wait for it to go out of stock. Lets hope it doesn't go out of stock while pre-orders are put out.

Definitely! What a great gift but order it now, have it shipped to you so you can wrap it and put it under her tree. Early Xmas gifts are no fun and they also put the recipient into a quandry as to what they can get you..

That's true.  I am not looking for an even $ gift exchange.  Hope I can talk to her DH soon so he doesn't buy one for her or she for herself if s/he later feels she / they can afford it.

Finally did it.  I just ordered the Kindle Touch 3G w/so for my BFF for Christmas.  Having it sent directly to her.  She's not too good about "Do not open before Christmas."  Hopefully she'll get it early to mid December.

My BFF is getting her Christmas-present Kindle tomorrow.  As I said above, she said she couldn't afford it this year.  But in the past she has said things and then at a later date . . . .

Yesterday she told me to expect something within a week which I'd have to sign for at delivery and show I.D.??  What?  She knows I now have a Kindle Touch and Fire.  I can usually be patient, but now I am curious.  I hope we're somehow not just exchanging?  I have no idea.

But I don't think you'd have to sign for delivery of a case and show I.D.?

ETA:  She's NOT telling me what it is.  Huh  Will be delivered on Dec. 6.  I will be here.

LOL well, around here needing ID usually means alcohol, but depending on the shipper it could be anything.

It's more dependent on the carrier than the item.  FedEx won't deliver to me from Amazon without a signature but UPS will...

Good thing I ordered early, had it sent to her, and let her open before Christmas.  Her DH was planning on gifting her with a Touch.  She had said she (they? her DH?) didn't have $$ for a Touch this year.  It is kinda typical of her to say something and later act as if she didn't?

She does!  And I e-mailed an Oberon gift certificate for a cover.  She's a voracious reader, but said she has been reading a little less lately.  Only other Kindle she's had is a K2.  She kept saying, "It's so small!"  (Touch compared to K2.)  For me "small" is one of the biggest selling points about Kindles.

Christmas is day after tomorrow.  My birthday was earlier this month.  My BFF really dumped on me -- in a very good way.  She had said she couldn't afford a new Kindle this year.  So you can see upthread that I got her a Touch, Oberon cover, DTB (not good one on Kindle), and small amount Harry & David gift card.  My oh my, what she gave to me!  Can I remember everything?  She's been listening to me all year.

- Yankee Candle candle in a beachy scent (certainly not a sample size)
- Harry & David fruitcake (love it)
- 2 Kenny Chesney CDs
- 2 bottles of my favorite wine with special personalized label (It was delivered by Fed Ex.  Alcohol so needed to be signed for and I.D. shown.  Because something went wrong at the winery with shipping, I got $25 gift card also from winery.  And my BFF got her money back.)
- simple moonstone post earrings that she made
- moonstone pendant from a favorite jewelry designer
- 2 common Borders gift cards (I still miss Borders big time.)

Then she gave to Burke, my Border Terrier pup I got in June

- a soft plush mat to go on top of his bed
- a fleece blanket that he can arrange as he wants on his bed

Geez, I may have forgotten something??

We met in the late '70s at work.  Her cousin had worked there before her.  We were good buddies.  I remember she had poo pooed somethings about her cousin / my now BFF.  Ultimately the poo pooed about person became my BFF.  Her cousin . . . long gone from me.  Two of them are still in contact.
