Hi all.. Smiley

I was wondering of anyone knew if the new Octovo Solis K3 light.. fits the older K2?.. I am looking for a new light ... read great reviews abut the Solis.. but wondered of the newer model would fit both Kindles.. does anyone have the new K3 light that can test it out on a K2? .. I would just go ahead and purchase the K2 version..and modify it to fit with both kindles.. but they no longer sell it.. Sad if anyone has an knowledge about this.... please add your input... Its much appreciated! Smiley

I had both lights and no, the K3 light would be too thin to fit the K2. It's the same light, but the the bracket they put on the bottom is different. Although... the K3 light has a spongy piece on the inside of the bracket that you might be able to remove to make it larger inside, but then you run the risk of scratching your K2 when you put the light on. If no one else chimes in, I can check my K3 light with my daughters K2 tonight when she gets home and let you know for sure, but I'm pretty positive it wouldn't fit since the K2 is thicker than the K3.

Thank you...that would be wonderful if you could actually try the K3 light on the K2....I look forward to hearing about your results!.. Smiley I did notice in close up pics of Both lights that the K3 Solis had a larger spongy thing inside to grip the K3.. where the K2 Solis had a smaller thin rubber bumper type pad.. I did wonder if the pad on the K3 Solis was removed and maybe thin sticky back felt was put in there if that would work ,probably with the K2.. but then it would have to be plumped back up again to use with the K3 to fit snug........... Ughhhhhh . I dislike having to mess with a light to make it fit Both Kindles .. If the light is that good though.... Smiley It would be worth the work... to make it fit both models....geeeh... why can't they make it adaptable to fit BOTH models.. with some kind of adjustable grip thingy!.. Wink

Ok, I tried the K3 light on the K2. It sits on it ok and the light slides about half of the way down. I could have probably pushed it all the way down to sit right up against the top of the kindle like it should, but I didn't want to ruin it for my K4. With it sitting about halfway down, it feels like it would be fairly secure on the kindle....doesn't wobble around or anything. I think over time it may squish the spongy stuff and it would make that stuff less thick, but if you are only using it on the K2 that would be ok.

((Thank you))))) another helpful member said the same thing.... that it fit but didn't side all the way down..she said it seemed to light the page just as well too even being it sat higher on the Kindle2... sounds like it can be used with both kindles.. they really should have come out with one light for BOTH Kindles...instead of just one new one for the Kindle3..  if that spongy thing gets squished too much I guess I can always add something in there to help hold it tighter on my K3,,, thank you so much for the help...  Smiley its much appreciated..

Hope I like it as much as everyone else does... Been using the m edge illuminator but it's starting to show it's age,,, ;)So it's time for a new light ..was going to go with another m edge until I started reading about the Solis..figured I'd give it a try..just wish the Solis stored in a cover as nicely as the M edge light does...

Kind of a neat design...how heavy is it? And how difficult to put on and off?

I have a SimpleLight that uses the K3 battery and sits on the side...it weighs almost nothing, so I'm curious about this one.

I tried the Simplelight.. while I loved the concept. Smiley... It would not work properly in my daughters Kindle 3.. kept flickering on and off..like a bad connection... I tried it on mine and it worked.. so its not the light but the Kindle itself.. I called the Simplelight manufactures themselves..  and they said sometimes the connections just don't connect right to the Kindle.. and it varies from Kindle to kindle ... I did  go ahead and use the Simplelight on my Kindle3 as it worked well on  it..... and while reading my Kindle froze.. Huh....... and re-booted itself.....It never has it done that... Not sure of it was the light but from reading past problems with some of the older K3 lighted covers (seems they  all work fine now) and the older K2 hinged covers I rather not take a chance of my Kindle having problems from having a light run off of it.,,.Loved the whole idea of how it worked..and how compact it was..and that it could be store in a cover that had enough room in the binding like a medge cover....The light was nice to read by too......On to try the Solis now.. Wink.. I will post how I like it once I get it and try it out.. Smiley

That's great....I haven't read in any of the reviews that anyone had a freezing issue with their K3 while using the light...but mine did freeze..page was stuck and wouldn't do a thing!..I shut it off and turned it back in and it rebooted..may not have been the light but I am not taking any chances.. The light was nice and bright but a tad blue for my liking.. I compared it to the medge light( the white version not the new touch one) and the medge is a whiter light and that's kind of what I prefer..the Solis us supposed to be a nice soft non blue tinted light..we'll see.. Wink

LLC328, I have had freezing issues, but havent connected them to the light...sometimes it was attached, sometimes it wasnt (and it was never on when it froze)

From what I've read here, the freezing happens for a variety of reasons and it is rather inconvenient. Once I couldnt get mine unfrozen until I went home and plugged it into my computer for about 15 minutes (as advised here in the Tips and Troubleshooting section!)

Not trying to push the light, just talking about freezing in general.

I loved the whole concept of the light.... How compact is was and how no batteries were ever needed..I wish it worked as well for me as it does for you.. Smiley.... it just didn't connect right to my daughters..and then the freezing incident scared me,, Shocked..... It may have not been the light but I didn't want to take any chances...........can I ask,,.... was your light attached to your kindle at all when it froze?.. I know you said it wasn't on.. does that mean the light wasn't turned on?... but it was still attached to your kindle?...or was it not attached to the kindle at all when it happened?... .. its those prongs that go into the kindle that cause the problem.... the light itself does not have to be on...... for it to cause problems... If you light was not attached to your kindle at all and it froze.. then of course it is not the light causing the trouble...

Yes, it's frozen with the light attached, and not attached. But so far, not while the light was on.

The freezing thing is very disconcerting. Last time, as I mentioned, it was difficult to get it to reset. Recommendations from the Tips and Troubleshooter section told me to hook it up to my computer. And that worked. It's annoying and makes me feel like the K3 is undependable. I'm going on a trip in early Dec and will be very bummed if my Kindle freezes and I cant get it to reset!

But people have this issue completely outside the light they use.

I dont take the prongs for granted tho....I completely support the light along the side of the Kindle when I am manipulating the neck of the light; I try to prevent it from moving at all by pressing it against the Kindle. I cant see that movement ot ndoing the prongs or connection any good!

..so it is freezing with the light unattached as well.......... well then its not the light that's for sure..I didn't know of the Kindles freezing for just no reason..(see you learn something new everyday.. Wink..).. I had only heard about the pronged/hinged cases causing the freezing and then when they came out with the pronged/hinged lighted case the same problems,,, until they fixed it.. the newer lighted cases work great now...have you tried calling Amazon?.. their customer service is great.. maybe they can send you a replacement Kindle? .. My daughters page turn button became loose and didn't work properly all the time.. she had to click it a few times sometimes to get the page to turn.. they sent a replacement out to us right away.... I am so sorry you are going through all of that with your K3...

It's not always random, from what I've read it can be for software updates. And most times it doesnt even bother me because the normal resetting procedures work. But what does bother me is that often after a reset, it messes up all my collections! I use special characters to organize them in a specific order and sometimes after resets, the characters have different values.

I consider myself lucky...some people's K3's have cracks, both in the screen and the case. For me, so far so good!
