When you use the kindle's email address it does go wirelessly...the only way to do it without using the 'send to' address is to connect it to your computer via usb and move it that way.

No I'm talking about via the wireless feature on the Kindle Touch with 3G wireless. As in "wireless" versus "wifi". Or let me clarify further: can I modify a personal document with my Kindle Touch 3G and save that document and then upload it to my Kindle account without having wifi access (or usb access to the internet.) All I have seen thus far is that you have to "email" the document, and since Amazon restricts the usual access people use to email with this model's wireless 3G, then I'm not sure it's possible via wireless 3G. Maybe one could at least upload annotations to the document if they couldn't outright modify it

In my brain, "wireless" means either WiFi or 3G. . .depending on what features your Kindle has.
You do have to email the document to the Kindle to get it to go "wirelessly". If you send it to the kindle's @kindle.com address, it will be downloaded via either WiFi or 3G. If it ends up being delivered via 3G, Amazon will charge you a small fee. The file must be sent from an approved address -- but you can add addresses easily via Manage Your Kindle. This function, I am sure, is completely supported even with the 'restricted' 3G on the Touch. The restriction is on the web browser usage, not on Amazon's wireless delivery functionality. And, as I said, if it's delivered via 3G, there will be a small charge -- I think it's currently 15¢ per MB (or portion thereof).
You can set your 'charge limit' to ZERO, and then it will NOT go via 3G, because they haven't the authorization to charge you if it does. It will wait in the queue and download the next time you turn on wireless and connect via WiFi.
You can also just use the @free.kindle.com address and it will only be set to be delivered via WiFi. If you're connected via 3G, you'll get a notice that there's something waiting for you do download next time you're in a Wifi Zone.
Again, the 'restriction' is only for web browsing. . .so you can't use the Browser while in 3G mode to get your personal email or check stocks or something. But to send an item to your kindle, you do it by sending to your kindle's 'send to' address. That's NOT YOUR email address as on file at amazon, it's a designated address assigned when you purchase the kindle. If you're not sure what it is, check your Manage Your Kindle page.

I got lost at the "Can I modify a personal document with my Kindle Touch" part. As far as I know, it isn't possible to actually modify a document on an e-ink Kindle. You can make notes within a book, and as long as you have Annotations Backup turned on for your device, those notes will appear on your kindle.amazon.com page under "Your Highlights" But actually making edits to a document? As far as I know, that's not possible. Shari

But to send an item to your kindle, you do it by sending to your kindle's 'send to' address. Yeah, I explored what I could find out about that as best I could without actually having a kindle. I assume this "send to" address is strictly just that, and you can't somehow access it to send out email. That means there is no way to upload via the Touch's wireless 3G. But at least highlghts and notations can be uploaded via a sync using the Touch's wireless 3G from what the responses are telling me.

True: you can not send an email FROM your kindle -- except to the extent that you can access some webmail program via the Browser. The Kindles email address is ONLY for Amazon to send stuff to it -- or you to send stuff which goes via Amazon and amounts to the same thing.

I guess I'm still confused. What would you be trying to upload? One of the book or sound files from your Kindle? Shari

I was confused myself. I was thinking maybe there was a way to edit a document or text file with a kindle. I was way off the mark there I think. I've never had a Kindle before, so I'm green at this.
