to your Kindle account with Amazon?

For example, lets say I have two Kindle Touch with 3G on the same kindle account, let's call them Kindle A and Kindle B.   Both Kindles remain at all times in two separate locations without wifi access.     Will I be able to make private annotations to a book on Kindle A, sync it to my Amazon account using the free wireless access provided by Amazon, and then view it later on Kindle B (or vice-versa?)

Should be able to.  My 3G Kindle3 syncs to my wifi only Baby Kindle with no problem.  But I don't have the annotations feature turned on... cause I usually don't annotate.  Smiley

I would need to hear from someone with the Touch with 3G, because it has more limited wireless access than your K3.  I have no doubt the K3 could pull it off.

I would also need to hear from someone that is certain they were actually using the wireless feature to do the sync, and not with their Kindle Touch defaulting to available wifi.

thanks

Sorry, I forgot about that.  I have only ever used the 3G for downloading and syncing books with Amazon.  Smiley

Zeppo the 3g is not limited in your connection to Amazon...that's the purpose of it. So syncing should work just fine.

Ann, do you have the Kindle Touch with 3G?  I'm hoping what you say is true, but given they've placed limitations on browsing, I won't feel totally sure that there are even some restrictions on Amazon's website until I hear from an actual user.  For instance, I wonder if you can post on the Amazon discussion groups  using the Kindle Touch's wireless 3G or if you are forced to use wifi to do that.

I have a touch 3 g and have done it many times. The only difference in the 3G access is surfing the web, email ect. I use my iPhone for that so don't care. It still does everything sync wise/ amazon wise and wiki like all my other kindles. I'd actually forgotten it had "limited 3G" until I read this thread. I've always had 3G kindles. But never used the 3G for web.

As far as posting on amazon's discusson boards I would not try it from any kindle browser. They are all to slow, comber some for me. That is why I never used any of the kindle for web stuff.

What Laura said. Cheesy

The only 'restriction' is on the Web browsing. . .the Kindle store access, book syncing, annotation backup, etc. are basic 'kindle functions' and should work with the Touch just like any other Kindle.  The difference is that, on the Keyboard model, you can navigate to any web page . . .so, yes, you could conceivably post on amazon's forums or even here.  But it would be a real chore to do so. . .the browser is slow and lacks a lot of features most people feel are 'basic'.  On the Touch, if you try to do that, no, you can't.

I'd also note that Laura mentions email.  Lest there be confusion:  You can't use a web mail client to check email on a Kindle Touch (while connected via 3G). You can on a Kindle Keyboard, though, again, it's probably not something you want to rely on for routine use!  But both Kindle's have their own "send to" email address that you can use to deliver content to the Kindle.  If it goes via 3G, there's a small charge, if you send it to be delivered via wifi (use the @free.kindle.com address) there is not.

Thanks for clarifying the email Ann.

No problem. . .and I just re-read what I wrote and further clarified!  The fact that a kindle has its own email address has caused confusion for 4 years! Roll Eyes
