But yeah, glossy black surfaces due show them bad--like the black bezels on my iPhone and iPad!

I've had good results with the InvisibleSHIELD line of screen protectors, but they are an absolute devil to get on correctly.

That's not a bad idea, especially if you've never done it before. What's really nasty is when you get them on perfectly, save for a single hair on the center of the screen...

My theory is that they wanted to switch to 'not white' . . . possibly in response to customer feedback.  So when the K3/Keyboard came out they had the two colors. . . .and they subsequently found that the darker color sold better.  So when they were introducing the 4th Gen Kindle and the Touch, they didn't bother with the option.

I wish I had a darker Kindle. I have the original KDX, and I found that it dirties easier. I suppose it helps that I have a skin on it, but regardless, I would have liked the darker one. If I have to choose white vs. black, I always go for black.

That's the downside to any white electronics. The old white Mac iBooks don't look nearly so white after seven years...

I hated the white. It looked cheap and plasticky-almost toy-like. Plus the dark color really makes the screen look even more gorgeous.

Love my white K1.  Love my graphite K4.   But I have to say, I never thought much about what color a gadget was as long as it did cool stuff. Cheesy

Judge not a gadget by its color, but by the contents of its motherboard!  Grin

I love my gadgets and I have black, white and in between. The color is not a determining factor when I buy. It is nice to have a choice though.

Like and I-phone the white color might be cool to the consumer.  Golf drivers have gone the same way.  White was the hot item in 2011 for Drivers.
