Kindle Books, Gift Cards and 1Click

Is there a way to have gift cards applied to only 1 click and not regular buying?

I have some gift cards that I want to use for buying kindle books....not all at once but here and there when I see one I want......but I could not see where I could set them just for 1 click. I order a lot of other things and don't have 1click for that. I saw somewhere that I could change payment options when I order an item but, when I tried to do a Subscribe and Save today it applied the gift card and I could not see where to change it.

Subscribe and Save is usually an automatic order, and will take the gift card balance first.  If you are checking out, you can edit the payment method (it doesn't jump out at you), where it says something like "gift card balance", you can click on it and change to your credit card.

Amazon purchases have always used the gift card balance first...although recently it seems something gave me an option up front to choose the payment.  But, as Susan says, there is an option to change the payment method that you can choose even after you've checked out.
