Only $5 and you can have a books cover. I'm not going to say that I'm a professional graphic designer, but I have access to tons of licensed photos and fonts plus good photoshop skills. here to get a cover http://fiverr.com/douglance/make-you-a-book-cover[/b] Good for you, Doug. An excellent initiative, and I've been wondering when someone might come up with it. (And if you're thinking that you might be able to raise your prices once you've established a reputation, I don't see why not.) You admit upfront that you're not a professional graphic designer, and you make the two essential points: "access to tons of licensed photos and fonts plus good photoshop skills." I think that for many, the Photoshop skills are the big thing. Professional artists and graphic designers cost a lot, but Photoshop can do so much that it should be possible for a skilled operator to produce a decent cover without being Leonardo da Vinci. I reckon that two of my own covers are pretty poor, and my own Gimp skills – I don't even possess Photoshop – probably aren't up to making them much better. Let me think about it...

Doug, what an amazing offer! I just sent you $5 and a link to my book, "Magic Makes You Strange." It needs a new cover. Feel free to email me if you want to talk more about it! Thanks!

Don't tempt me to write an erotic romance about Cthulhu, a shapechanging highlander-slash-dragon, and a pickle.
I believe I read that in Harlan Ellison's anthology Again, Dangerous Visions. It was hard not to read it as thinly-veiled satire of the Scottish independence movement. I think the pickle was the nuclear warheads stored at the RAF base in Scotland. I already have more cover art for books unwritten than I'll get to writing in the next nine months, but for the price, I'm sorely tempted, not least because I somehow decided to go write a (contemporary) romance novel despite not having bought any suitable cover art. Oh, and there's my werewolf story, 'The Luckiest Jihadi'. Oh, and my un-charming Valentine's Day non-love story about two people sharing their first kiss for all the wrong reasons needs a cover as well, doesn't it? Looks like you'll be getting a bunch of my money, Doug.

Let me know any specifications you need and I can do it.
So if I told you I wanted three of them you could do it? One with an astonishingly hot redhead (flaming red, not a vaguely kinda sorta red) holding a baseball bat like she's about to beat someone over the head. One with a gibbet in a town square that's feels all ominous? And one for a story about a chicken that faces his fears and crosses the big road? I don't really have any concept what this one would look like.

This is the cover Doug just made for me. Check it out! Pretty awesome, right? I agree. Awesome! This is a fabulous deal. I wish I had something I needed a cover for--but not for awhile yet.

Doug,
I sent you a personal message with my email so give it a look. I have a need for two covers immediately and would be happy to offer you a premium over your $5 offer. It looks like you're going to have a LOT of business!

I think he already does have a lot of business. He's not answering any PMs. (I sent one yesterday and all I hear are crickets.)

I assume he's crazy busy trying to produce several covers a day. I note he's (temporarily?) suspended the offer on Fiverr. Glad I grabbed one when I did, but I'm going to kick myself if I can't get one additional one.

Glad I grabbed one when I did, but I'm going to kick myself if I can't get one additional one. He had a ton of books in his cue the last time I checked. I typically never give business to anyone who doesn't respond to my messages. It was only 5 bucks so thought what the heck? Why not go for the offer. So I'm glad I got my foot in the door before it closed. However, I am disappointed that he didn't bother to respond to the message I left him on Fiverr either. But if he makes me a worthy cover, all will be forgiven.

I'm guessing that's a hell of a lot less work than creating a cover from nothing. Or it might be that I ordered three covers for three shorts.

Amazing offer indeed. I guess you bought the rights to this image http://gorrem.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=48#/dex2mm ? You have good taste, it looks made to be on a book cover. I think that for many, the Photoshop skills are the big thing. Professional artists and graphic designers cost a lot, but Photoshop can do so much that it should be possible for a skilled operator to produce a decent cover without being Leonardo da Vinci. If Leonardo were alive today, he probably would use Photoshop too, as many professional artists do. Photoshop isn't just something one uses to 'clean up' or manipulate photos, it's also the program of choice for a lot of digital painters, including some giants in the book-cover industry. As an illustrator I know uses to say: 'There's no 'make picture' button'.

I just wanted to show everyone the beautiful cover Doug made for me. I gave him a rough idea and he created a wonderful cover from it. Very quality work for an extremely modest price. And unfortunately I have never inserted a picture in one of my posting so I am having a hard time putting it in if someone could direct me the right way I would be grateful.

He made me one. While it is nice enough cover, it doesn't really work for the book, alas. Oh well, get what you pay for I guess.
