I have a keyboard Kindle 3 which works fine. The new $79 Kindle is smaller and lighter weight though so that is an advantage. However, I wonder if the lighter weight is enough of an advantage to buy it.
So is the new Kindle worth buying if you already have a Kindle Keyboard 3?

I have the K3, the FIRE and I fully LOVE the Baby Kindle that I got this past week. I really like the small size of the new Kindle and find that I take it around more than the other 2. The K3 is my main reader that goes with me on trips or where I might be w/o wifi. Thus, I'd say if you have the spare $ go for it, you can never have enough Kindles...LOL Oh and I used the $5 off ad to cut the price down a bit too..

My rule of thumb on personal electronics is that if I absolutely positively KNOW that I MUST have it, then I might need it. If I don't know feel that it will ruin my life if I don't have it, I don't even consider buying it. (I won't say I always stick to that, but I try). Of course, the fact that I seek to follow that rule doesn't prevent you from getting a new Kindle even though you are happy with your K3.

I've found the K3 and the mini work really well for me. The mini is so portable almost every time I leave the house it comes with me. At home, I like to read in bed and the length of the K3 makes it easier for me to use then the mini.

Yes.
My K3-3G is my travel buddy, great on last month's cruise vacation, traveling, airports, etc.
My K4-NT is my at home default reader.

You're really the only person who can answer that question... Did I need the new Kindle Touch I just bought with points/gift cards? In addition to my K1, my K4-Mini and my Fire? (Not to mention the iPad with Kindle app.) Probably not of course I did, I needed it as a moderator here.  Betsy |

Er, maybe?  I have a functional K2 (that's technically my husband's but sits and gathers dust and has for at least a year and a half), the K3, and now the K4 mini, which came yesterday. Honestly, if my K3 was fully functional, I'm not sure the K4 would be totally, truly necessary. It is cheap, so it's not a huge risk at least! I love the size of the K4, the battery life is better than my K3's ever was even new (regardless of the fact that it is not supposed to be as good), and it's nice and quick. But. The K3 was plenty small, honestly, and fits in my purse just fine. The K4 is significantly smaller, for sure, but I never found the K3 awkwardly sized, unlike the K2 for example. If your battery on your K3 is still great, I am not sure how the battery life would stack up against the new one. (It seems like my particular K3 may never have had very good battery life compared to some of them- who knows about yours, it's hard to really know until you have a basis for comparison.) If you ever have a hard time carrying the K3 around, definitely get the K4. I'd probably lean towards saying "get it"; you can always return it. |

I had a Kindle Keyboard, but got rid of it because I prefer the functionality of the Kindle Touch. Also, the Touch seems to run faster than the Keyboard (I don't know whether the memory was increased, but it seems like it). The smaller size is also nice, as its easier to carry around.

To me, no.
My K3 seldom leaves my nightstand after getting an iPad 2 in the spring and an iPhone 4s a couple months ago. So the K3 is fine for my uses.
Even if I was using the K3 more I probably wouldn't upgrade since the K3 and Touch have the same e-ink pearl screen as the K3. I like the smaller sizes of those devices since I seldom use the keyboard anyway, but that's not enough for me to upgrade personally. If it had a new generation e-ink screen with better contrast (i.e. a whiter background) it would have been more tempting.

I've had the touch for about a month now, and am finally just now resolved to keep it. It still irks me daily, changing pages with a brush, or not changing when I hit the dead area in the bottom right. It's just not seamless like my old Kindle Keyboard and I hate that i can't read in a bag in the tub, nor wipe a smudge off the page while reading. I'm also not certain that the menu system is any faster with the touch feature, I could scroll down to look up a word lickety split with the four way controller. Another annoyance, is that in the tub, if I want to set it to the side and lean it against the wall to read, the dang power switch is on the bottom and turns itself off. HELLO! How stupid is that?
So am I sold? No. Resolved? I guess.

I think it's just personal perference. If you think you will prefer the smaller size, it may be worth it to you. I have a kindle keyboard and I have to admit I'm tempted to get the smaller kindle even though I obviously don't really need it. |

My wife keeps asking me what I want for Christmas so I am thinking of asking her for a Kindle 4. I am a hard person to buy for since I usually just buy something if I want it.

It's the lack of page turn buttons... I like to read with one hand, I have two places to hold the K3, three on the Nook Simple Touch and still be able turn pages. |
