So, I'm looking into getting a Fire, but I'm starting to wonder if I should sell my KDX. I honestly don't even know what it's worth nowadays, since it's the original KDX. Anyhow, I just don't think I could part with it. I still want an e-ink device, but I was thinking about getting a K3 with 3G instead, so it would be nicer to carry around. Have you had problems in parting with your Kindle devices? Or does the prospect and excitement of getting a new Kindle overwhelming that feeling of loss?

It takes me a while to get rid of a Kindle usually.  But seeing how happy people are when I regift them really helps.

Although I have to admit that giving away my $79 Kindle was no problem.  It was just too much of a downgrade for me to become attached to it.  I can't really remember, but I think I had it a little less than a month before passing it on.

Wowza! I can't imagine going through that many. I hate making decisions like this. If it were any other device, I'd upgrade in a heartbeat, if I really wanted to. I guess I've grown an attachment to my very first Kindle. I think I may end up keeping my KDX, unless I really feel like I need a smaller one. Who knows, I may end up with three. Tongue

I don't think I could ever get rid of my Kindle. I thought about getting a Touch but I love my K2 way too much. I am getting a Fire for Christmas but that isn't by any means to replace my Kindle.

I will need to buy another one soon though since two of my daughters are already borrowing mine for most of their reading.

I've had a K2 for a few years now. I would like to have the WiFi since the whispernet doesn't work in the house, but all in all not a big deal. If I broke it i would be online ordering another before the glass stopped moving.

I have a kindle 2 and it is fine but my wifi 6 inch is so much lighter to take on the bus with me and if i had something happen to it I would  not get upset at the price.     It is very fast and easy to use and I only got it to wait for when they put out a fire with  3 gs, with  a usb port and internet ready possibilitiy.  I am not crazy about the present fire.   I will wait for the  second generation.

I have a rule about getting rid of devices. If I don't know where it is in the house right this minute, it's not something I use often enough to keep. My co-worker wanted an ereader, I agreed to sell her my Sony. It took me an hour to find it that night.

Yeah, I'm thinking of waiting for the next generation as well. I hear it's coming out in the spring. I can wait that long. In the meantime, I'll start saving for it.

Haha, that's a good rule. I like it. The only thing is that I have a pretty good memory.

You still need an e-ink device for reading, so don't give up your Kindle DX.

I couldn't bear to sell my K2 when I upgraded to the K3, even though I knew I'd likely never use it again. In the end though, I gave it to my SIL, who now loves it as much as I did.

If the Kindle you have is your only e-ink device, I'd definitely keep it.

Agree with the others. . .keep an eInk device for sure.  But if you want to sell the DX and get one of the smaller ones, that would be a solution.  I sold my K1 back to Amazon a month or so ago. . . .Amazon Trade In Store.

It looks like you could get around $100, give or take depending on condition.  Or you might try the Buy/Sell/Trade/Barter board here at KB -- you'd likely get a better price there.  I sold back to Amazon because, frankly, no one wanted a K1 any more.  I had no one to give it to and it was just sitting there being neglected.  I got around $20 for it.

I had a DX for about a year and a half. . .then gave that to my aunt who LOVED it until she died when it was passed on to her sister who is also enjoying it.  I now have both a K3 and K4 and use them both but would consider passing the K3 on to someone of there was a need.  As it is, there's no one, so I'll just keep 'em both for a while. . . .

Nope.  I passed on my K1 and K2 immediately after getting a K2 and K3 respectively.

I would keep the DX because you never know when you might want to read a book that is heavy on maps or charts that would be easier to view on the DX.

I've decided to wait on the Fire, for the next generation. I will probably get a K3 3G at the same time I get the Fire, or some time in between. Does anyone know if a new Kindle (other than Fire) will be released next year?

With so many different models available right now, I think it's unlikely there'll be any new e-ink models for at least a year - I think Amazon will want to concentrate on tablets for a while, especially if it's true they intend to bring out different sized ones.

In the end of course, it's all pure speculation - only Amazon know for sure and they tend not to make official announcements until quite close to release time.

All of mine have gone to good homes, so I don't have a problem giving them up. As long as I have my new one I'm ok. Smiley

I gave my K2 to my brother -- good home but neglected since he doesn't read much and hasn't used it.

Whats this with a new generation of kindles so soon?  I have a target price for the kindles and if amazon is willing to meet my target price they can get that upgrade not before.
