I am sure this has been asked before - but dh feels if we buy dd a Kindle from Target we can surprise her - buying from Amazon it will be delivered, but she's liable to see the box...
Love the CS at Amazon, wouldnt trade that for anything. Reading about some wonky features on the Touch and The Fire, I would depend on the CS.
TIA

No matter where you buy it, you will have access to Amazon's CS; they will provide the tech support. The device will not be preregistered to your account, but asnit's a gift, that won’t matter (not that it's a big deal.)

Thank you for the quick replies - and I did use the search! I knew this had to be a topic asked all too often!! (my search results had answers from Leslie's FAQ and then some from 2010/2009!)

If you buy it even via Amazon but mark it as a gift, it will come in a generic Amazon box.

Keep in mind also when buying from a store if they ask you to buy a years warranty don't, amazon provides you with the same one for free.

I've bought all my Kindles (except my first one) at Target and had no problem. In fact, just picked up the $79 one yesterday and got a $10 gift card from Target. Now, I mainly buy from Target because my husband works for them so I also get a 10% discount on everything I buy...including the Kindle.

Mine was bought at target, I think it's completely fine to do so. They told me it could be returned no problem with their usual return policy. Amazon's year long warranty will still stand as well.

I also bought my Kindle at Target. The first one I got had an issue disconnecting from 3G & not reconnecting without a restart. That was less than useful while shopping in the Kindle store! I had no problem exchanging it at Target. They didn't even ask me what was wrong with it. I've also gotten spectacular customer service from Amazon.
In the future I plan on buying direct from Amazon unless I absolutely cannot wait for 2 day shipping, but there is really no drawback, for the consumer, to buying at Target or any other store that sells Kindles.
