A couple of months ago, my Kindle started showing me what strangers had highlighted in books I was reading. I find this intrusive. I've gone into the menu section to turn off highlights, but it didn't remove the notes that tell me that 53 users underlined such and such passage. Does anyone know how to get rid of this feature completely?

There are two sections on the settings pages - one is 'Popular Highlights' and the other is 'Public Notes' (on the K3 these are on pages 2 and 3 respectively). It could be either of those causing the problems and you need to make sure that it says 'turn on' next to them to be sure they're turned off at the moment. After you've done that, I would restart the Kindle. Menu-->Settings-->Menu-->Restart (NOT reset to factory defaults) because that often clears this kind of glitch.
If that doesn't work, I think a call to Kindle CS would be your best move.

I had those settings already turned off, but I hadn't restarted. I just did that. Thanks for the suggestion. If it doesn't work, I'll call CS.

It's taken me a while to find out if this worked, because several books I've read must have had no highlights, but now I've got a new one and yes, it's still highlighted. Any ohter suggestions? I can turn off the number of highlights, but not the highlight itself.
