Hi, Kindle Owners--

My husband bought me a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I'd like to pass my former Kindle to my elderly mother.  However, I'd like to have it all set up for her to make book purchases easy.

Can someone tell me the quickest way to change from my credit account to my mom's, and any other changes I might need to make to customize it for her?  I didn't set up my own Kindle; my tech-savvy kids did it for me.  Smiley

You don't say which Kindle model you have but I think they're all essentially the same. The first thing you need to do is to set your device to factory defaults, which will delete all your content and settings. From the home page that's menu-->settings-->menu-->set to factory defaults. This may also deregister your Kindle from your account. If it doesn't you can do that yourself, either on the Kindle - again from the settings page or on the website on your 'manage your kindle' page.

Then you would need to register the device to your mother's account - so you will need to know her Amazon account login details (or if she doesn't have one you can set it up for her) - which you can do in the same place as you deregister yours. Note: if you register it to the new account on the website rather than direct from the Kindle you will need to know it's serial number, which again is on the settings page.

Once that's done it then depends on if it's wi-fi only or a 3G model. Does she even have wi-fi at home? If it's a 3G model she's good to go and can order books direct from the Kindle if she doesn't have access to or know how to use a computer.

Let us know how you get on or if you need any more info. I hope your Mom enjoys her new Kindle!

I'm not sure from your post.  Were you planning to leave her on your account so you can share books, or set her up on a completely separate account?

Thank you to you both!  I was assuming that she and my dad would want their own account, but on the other hand she might want some of the books i my archive--am I allowed to pick and choose what I leave in there?

Technically, you aren't supposed to give books to other people, but if you leave any books on the Kindle, they will take up one of your licenses, and you can't reset to factory defaults (which will clear everything out).

You could leave books on it, and just de-register it, though, if you really want to.

No, I guess I'll just clear everything and send her some Kindle book gifts.

Thanks so much for the clear directives!!
