Today I submitted a suggestion to Amazon KDP. No idea of their interest in providing such data for us, but this simple method would enable each of us to see how large the Borrow pool is becoming and to determine our position therein.  Here is the message I sent them:

KDP Customer Service:

One of the topics of discussion among KDP authors is the inability to discern the value of our individual Borrows as they relate to the monthly pool.  We know that a report will probably be issued sometime after the month has completed, (similar to the Monthly Report on the KDP page)

A suggestion which would allow authors to follow the monthly progress would be for KDP to post (perhaps on the KDP Dashboard) collective data, not related to individual accounts, that shows total number of books borrowed month-to-date.  For instance:

67,500 books borrowed as of Dec 22nd

124,000 as of Dec 25th.

A running total of this nature would allow each author to determine a rough estimate of their percentage of Borrows in relation to the overall movement.

Just a suggestion from a KDP author who is very pleased with the new program.

Like everything else Amazon does, I doubt they'll provide us with any solid numbers. I think they enjoy the mystique of never telling the whole truth about anything (and sometimes never revealing any real details about others).

How weird having a column on my dashboard in which I'm hoping sales slow down!

I don't personally feel the need for hints as to the pay-off in advance. I trust it'll decent, even if Amazon has to fatten the kitty. Otherwise they'd worry about a mass exodus from the program. My attitude is it's a Christmas bonus from the boss!
