When you order one of the new Ks there is  list on the right w/ accessories. What is the power adapter? Surely that's not the charger, is it?? Wouldn't that come w/ it?

New Kindles no longer come with the power adapter/charger.  You are expected to charge the Kindle by plugging it into a USB port on your computer.  It still comes with the USB cable - but not a computer.    Wink

It doesn't come wit the WiFi only Kindle Touch. It only has the USB cord. You can plug it into your computer to charge. If you have a another charger that has the USB attachment that works as well. I have the iPhone and the iPad and they both work. My husband also has a Kindle so we both use his.

I think it's because quite a few people already have a USB power adapter in the house from something else: an iPhone, an iPod, another Kindle in the house, etc.  All you need is a mini-USB to USB cord.  Some people also own Power Mats or multi-device charging stations or prefer to charge from the computer.  So if Amazon can save on production costs and make it a separate item, it makes sense for them.  Rather like covers: most people went out and bought their own covers based on individual preferences, so Amazon doesn't include a cover.

Just a way for them to save money on the device costs by not including the power adapter as a lot of people already have them.

If you don't it's annoying as things take longer to charge hooked up to a computer than the power adapter, and if you want to charge over night you have to leave the computer on etc.

It also assumes you own a computer.  I'd guess 99.9% of Kindle owners do, but it shouldn't be a requirement...

I've never in my life charged my K by plugging it into the computer, LOL!  My charger is next to my bed so I can read, then charge it overnight.  Of course, Kate Kindle needs charging more frequently than the Touch will, but still--I can't see myself altering that. I guess I've got to fork over $10 for the charger.  Angry

My wifi Kindle came with the power adaptor, and I love that little thing. I charge my cell phone with it, too. It's the smallest one I've ever had, and it's white, so I always know which cord/adaptor is the right one.
