It's under the Special Offers column on the Manage Your Devices page. The cost depends on your device. It runs $30 to $50. Once you pay to remove them you can indeed turn them back on and off at will.

I know it works on the k3 and the touch because I've done it to both mine. You go to your MYK page, click on manage devices and it lists Special offers as either subscribed or unsubscribed. If you click on edit you can opt in/out. If you bought a SO kindle you have to pay the difference between the price of the SO vs NSO kindle of the type you bought. It was $50 for the k3, and $40 for the touch. Once I did that I can just go to the same place, hit edit again, and switch back and forth whenever I want. It says it will add/remove the next time you connect wifi, but when I'm out of wifi range it has made the changes via 3g for no fee.

LOL! It was the K3 originally but then had its name legally changed to the Kindle Keyboard. Betsy

Hi!
So what happens if I do it the other way around? I mean, I have a kindle touch 3G without special offers. If I turn them on, do I get like a gift card or bonus to spend on amazon? I was just wondering...
Thanks!

Yeah. . . .no. Once you've paid full price you can turn them on or off, pretty much at will. But there's no credit or re-buy-out needed when you do so. Which actually makes a lot of sense. . .otherwise, it would make accounting a real bear. I'm guessing they added the option because, when the SO kindles were first released, there were a lot of people who expressed that they might be interested in opting in, if they could. At the start, there were some really good offers that came up. They've not been quite as lucrative lately, but I'm expecting some better ones starting Christmas for all the new kindleers. . . . .

Weird. I have a kindle touch with special offers and there is no where in manage my devices an option to opt out of special offers. I didn't buy it directly with amazon but that shouldn't make a difference not? Or would it have to do with country settings as I'm in Holland? Not that the special offers bother me, it's just a shame I can't use some of them. At least I don't think I can use them.

That would do it. The special offers are only available to US residents and the devices can only be sold directly to US residents -- or at least, can only be shipped to US addresses. So it's probably not even a toggle on accounts that are NOT US accounts.

Okay thanks. As I said it's not that big a bother, I hardly notice it, and I knew it beforehand when I bought it, it would be special offers and I would probably not be able to use the SO's. But it was the only option for me to buy as it's not available to my country. Do love the device to and am happy with it. SO and all.

So I bought my mother a SO Touch for Christmas. Now I'm thinking I should dump the SO's. Right now it still sealed in the box and is linked to my Amazon account. But I was going to deregister it before she opened it so it'd be fresh for her to own Amazon account. If I kill the SO's and then deregister it what will she have when she opens it? A Touch without SO's?

You'd have to pay $40 to get rid of the special offers. If you did that while it's registered to your account, then you de-register...while it seems like it should work, you never know where the glitches may appear. And your mother might like the SOs. I'd suggest leaving it as is...if you really think she'll hate them, give her a $40 gift card and tell her she can use that to opt out of the special offers (this is assuming gift card money can be used for this purpose).
