Leslie, I haven't had my Touch very long (a week) but I'll give some of your questions a shot... As for charging, I haven't had to charge mine since I got it, but the manual says that "Charging should take less than four hours using a Kindle AC adapter. Charging using 3rd party adapters or via USB should take less than four hours, but may take longer depending on the capability of the hardware." (Page 9). I haven't seen anything where it would take only an hour using the AC adapter. If you're listening to an Audible book, there's a little volume slider at the bottom of the screen: Mine registered automatically; I know here on the forum that isn't always the case, but then you just choose "Registrations" from "Menu, Settings" from the home page. It seems to me that my K1 came already registered as well, so I'm not sure how different it is. Hope this helps! Betsy

Has anyone here bought a Kindle Touch from Staples or Best Buy? Can you tell me what you need to do to register it? I've bought all my Kindles at Amazon. Thanks!
L
I can go non-detailed on this one, I'm assuming the Touch is the same as the non. When i did the one I bought at target this week I turned it on, and it started it's stuff - that I didn't watch because I was trying to get to the spot to add it's mac address to my router. It reaches a point where you can choose "already have an amazon account" or "I'm new, set me up one" (not the exact verbiage!). I entered my info and it saved it, but as I hadn't gotten the mac address on there - it couldn't connect to the wifi. Once i got connected to the wifi it sent it's info to amazon and I was good to go sending books to it and I got a welcome email from amazon, and 3 gazillion files flooded my MYK first page (dictionaries and all those user manuals in languages i couldn't read).

Betsy, this is great. Thank you! And thanks for the screen shot. I listen to books, but only on my iPhone.
L
I don't listen on my Kindle either, but I had the Bossypants book through a special offer, so it was already in my Kindle archive. Made it easy to try.... Betsy

I bought my Kindle touch 3g at Target and set it up in the parking lot. Yes, I was excited! I just turned it on went to the menu to register this device, and as a previous poster said, it had the choice of already having an Amazon account, or set up new. I entered my Amazon log in and password and got my archives. Picked a couple books to load in the parking lot and there they were! Such fun . I don't charge via USB, I have a laptop and that is too much trouble. I use my k3 charger and usually charge at about 30-50%. It takes about one hour from there.

This weekend, Harvey and I will be chained to our computers as we put the final touches on the manuscript for Kindle Touch for Dummies. It is due to the publisher on Tuesday.
Do you own a Kindle Touch or do you use another model?

I own a Kindle Touch. I also have, currently in my possession: the original K1, K2, K3 (now called the Kindle Keyboard), "mini" Kindle (the $79 version), Kindle Touch (with Wi-Fi and 3g) and a Kindle Fire. I had a Kindle DX but I sold that... L

Leslie, I'm thinking an hour on the charging may not be correct. Using the provided cord and the Kindle adapter from the K2 in the wall socket last time, I'm pretty sure it was still at least two hours. I remember noting it wasn't as fast as the iPhone, but faster than the iPad. Unfortunately, I'm still at over half a charge, so I can't test this one for you tonight.

Thanks, Victoria. Trouble is, they don't discharge rapidly, even when I leave the wireless on, so it is hard to test! LOL. The takeaway is that battery life is good. Putting a quantative number on it is harder. L

If your Kindle breaks and you need a replacement, does it ship with a USB cable? Anyone know? Thanks in advance.
L
I had to get a replacement and it came with the cable. They also said not to bother returning the original cable...just the kindle. Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk

The K4 replacements include a USB cable but not an AC adapter. I don't know about the touch. Good luck with your book.

The Touch only has the cable--no a/c adapter at all. Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk

Has this been published yet and will it cover Kindle Touch 3G? Will it be only in Kindle format or book or both? Thanks
