I'd like to get my husband a light for his Kindle 4 (the "mini"/non-touch kindle).  He reads it without a cover, so whichever light I get him, he'll be clipping it directly to the Kindle.  But I'm a little concerned about the clip damaging the Kindle - is this something I should be concerned about?

Also, as far as the lights go, I'm currently looking at the Mighty Bright XtraFlex2 and the Verso Clip-on.  I'm leaning towards the Mighty Bright because I like that it takes AAA batteries (since we always have those on hand) and has two brightness settings.  If anyone has any experience with either of these lights (or other lights to recommend), I'd love to hear about it (especially experiences with clipping these lights directly to a Kindle).

Thanks!

Here's a helpful thread that addresses the topic:

I just got the Solis light and really like it...It also depends on the case you have...If you have the Amazon Leather Cover this one won't work because it's too thick of a fit for the light...But if you have an Oberon style cover, it will be fine...I love this light because it's not too bright and it's very aesthetically pleasing to the eye too...  Grin

The Mighty Bright is an excellent lamp, but it's way too big to use on a bare K4. I have a Touch, with a slightly larger bezel than the K4, and it's unwieldy on that. Great choice if you're using a cover though.

Another Solis user here, and it's the best book light I've ever seen. I've tried and used several, going back to my paper days, and this is the only one I've ever really loved or thought was worth the money. Used with a rechargeable AA battery, I've gone about 35 hours so far on a single charge. And I always have charged AA's around, so unlike the Verso, when the battery dies, I don't have to quit reading! Just plug in a fresh one and keep going.

I suspect the Amazon lighted cover is the best overall option, but for those of use who don't use covers, the Octovo Solis is an ideal choice. Unfortunately, it's currently out of stock at Amazon unless you buy it bundled with a Kindle Keyboard cover (and the cover doesn't fit the K4). It is still available on Octovo's site (though I don't know if it would arrive before Christmas) and recent communication with them indicated they were doing a small tweak to accommodate the new Touch, so it hasn't been discontinued entirely.  If you compare the reviews on it to those of every other light, I think you'll see it's worth waiting for: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CX34KE/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details

Thanks for the info pitbullandfire and VictoriaP.  I've decided to wait on the light for now.... seems like a clip on light might not be the best choice for coverless K4s.  Will look more into the Solis after the new year though (especially if they're updated for the K4's).  Also thinking I'll look into LED headlamps - that might work better for my husband.
