I used to hoard my paperbacks in the day. I'm moving back to hoarding but now with e-books. People want to loan me some novels, but I like to have them in my library in case I might want to re-read them (which very rarely happens, but just in case...LOL). I know I'm still a novice Kindle hoarder with only a couple hundred acquired. Are there any other e-book hoarders and how many can you hold and not effect the Kindle performance on the various models?

I'm not a hoarder. I'm not a voracious reader -- although I'm trying to be. Just keep most of your books archived on Amazon's cloud. I keep app. a dozen books on my Kindle at a time.

On my K1, I had about 800 on a SD card and it was too many to do searches, but otherwise performance was OK. On my latest Kindles, I don't plan on having many books on the device themselves.

I do pick up all the free ones that I think I might like to read. Right now, I keep them in collections on my Kindle keyboard and use my Kindle Touch for only the ones that I plan to read in the very near future. Since I read so much, I find that keeping my "to be read" pile on the Kindle Keyboard works best for me. It's so nice that AMZN lets me know that I have purchased a book but this is the only way I can keep good track of when I have actually read the book. I do admit that I have found the amount of free books being offered recently to be a bit overwhelming but as long as I have the storage space and device performance doesn't suffer, I can't see where there should be a limit. I do put them into various collections for ease of selection.

It's amazing how fast that library grows and dang those books add up on the CC bill..

Thanks!. I currently have 1,239 books on my K3, and since all I do is read on it, I don't notice any performance issues. Since there is still almost 2 gigs of space left on my K3, I see no reason to store anything in the cloud. I have all my books in 17 collections so they are easy for me to find and can tell if I have read something by the dots below the titles. I also have a "read in 2011" collection so I can see how many books I have read this year.

I must be missing something. I do remove the book from the device as soon as I have finished reading it but I have kept one book that I read on it because a sequel recently came out and I wanted to skim through the first one again. So I just took a look at it and as well as the one that I am currently reading and both have the same pattern of dots as the ones yet to be read. Is there supposed to be a difference?

Yes, if you left the book you just read at the end, then went to your menu, it should have bold dark dots. If you look at a new book not yet read, it should have slightly smaller grey dots. The bold dots show your progression in a book. eek, edited for spelling!

Thanks. I just looked closely at the one that I am currently reading and now see that the dots are bolder for the first 2/3 which corresponds to my reading. I never noticed that before since it is so subtle (as least to my eyes) and think it would be so much nicer if it switched to a solid line. I appreciate learning something new today about my Kindle.

I didn't know there could be to many. I've always hated to part with my books but at least with ebooks they are not all over the house.

I'll be glad when I've finally replicated enough of my paper library that I can be rid of a shelf or two! For the record, I'm just under 500 books, all on the Kindle itself, and I don't download every single freebie out there--or even the majority of them. Still, I have about 80 TBR right now, and that's a bit much. I do reread--I'm rereading an old favorite right now, in fact, and to me the whole point of the Kindle was to have my whole library on a portable device.

I have cleared 3 shelves from my biggest bookshelf. I still have a few to buy that I want from my favorite writers. Once I do that I'm going to clear out the rest.

I'm not a "horder", it's called having a library! giggle. I was just going to say that it's not hoarding if they aren't taking up space and taking over my apartment. And I don't think I can have too many books. I've got about 1100, 200 presently on the kindle.

Yes, I hoard books. I always have. Format doesn't matter to me. I did get rid of a lot of paperback books, but that's not saying much. I still have...a rather large amount and my kindle account is ridiculous.

I have about five hundred eBooks on my Kindle. My DH has about 500 paper books in various shelves that he won't part with. Trying to tell him they are a fire hazard. He has a Kindle DX with half a dozen books on. Wish I could get him to change!

I currently have 263 ebooks & they are all still living on my K3. I got my first Kindle at the end of January 2011 & my TBR collection has 47 books in it right now so that's 216 books I've read in 2011 + a few that were so bad I deleted them from the cloud.
I would say I'm a voracious reader & a bit of a hoarder. I know any book I delete from my K3 will live on in the cloud but I just can't seem to delete!

So when you delete them from the K3 you just keep them in your MYK account? Unless they are über bad and delete from there? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have 675 ebooks and love the fact that I can keep them. With my paper books I was always trying to find new places to put them and I would have to finally give some away. With the ebooks I only keep 100 to 200 on it, but I know that I can always download more from my archived items.

Yes, anything you buy from Amazon is kept in your archive and you can download it to your Kindle any time you want. (The whole list is shown on your MYK page, but on the Kindle under 'archived items' it just lists the ones not already on the device). Since they also started storing any personal docs you've emailed to your Kindle account, any other books or docs you got elsewhere and transferred in that way (since the change) will also be available in your archive. At least that seems to be true of US accounts, I haven't tried it with my UK account. Once you delete from the MYK archive, they're gone for good.
