Eirelan

To all - I invite Kindleboards readers to consider my new novel entitled Eirelan. It is a story set far in the chronological future (two thousand years) but in the technological past. The setting is Ireland and the British Isles, Brittany and the north coast of Spain.  While the book is devoted first and always to the characters, their hopes and dreams and joys and sorrows, you will also find poetry, music, art, history, philosophy, battles, and warships guarding the high seas.

Eirelan tells of a people fighting to hang onto literature and music and art and civilization because that is what they value most in the world. They are willing to lay down their lives to preserve what has come down to them.  The book was written by the characters, not by me in any direct way. I did not know as the book opened what would happen. Plot ideas that I started with quickly evaporated and as the characters and the setting took over, events moved along in surprising ways. Whenever I stalled among the 50 chapters, I knew I was now telling my own story and not theirs. Each chapter revealed to me more about these fascinating people, their strengths and weaknesses, their deepest desires and frustrations, their ambitions and disappointments. Eirelan became their story, told by them to me and then written down. In the end I found their world one I would like to live in, despite its terrible dangers. I hope my readers will feel likewise.
