My husband is watching the Denver/Patriots game (go Pats!). An ad for the $79 Kindle just came on. I am struck by the fact that at this price, I could buy 5 Kindles (and still have $4 left over) for what I paid for my first Kindle back in 2008. I could have given a Kindle to my husband, daughter, son, and mother and still had enough money to buy one for me!

Actually, I thought of passing off my slightly used mini-K to a friend but then I thought, why? It's cheap enough that I can give him a brand-new one, not a hand-me-down.

What a difference a few years make!

I definitely agree! I could have bought 6.3 K4s at what I paid for my KDX. I try not to think about that too much because it has yet to fail me, though I constantly think about how much I would love to get a new Kindle.

Oh yeah. And it only gets worse - I could buy six laptops for what I paid for my first desktop computer back in the early 90s.

I took out a loan from the bank ($1500) to buy my first Osborne 1 in 1982. I believe it cost $1999. Then I saved for a year to buy a dot matrix printer ($1000). Then I saved for 3 years to buy a HP Laser printer ($3000) which I used to print my dissertation. That LJ lasted a good long time, though. I gave it away through Pennysaver in 2002 so I had it for 15 years.

So...  Tim Tebow and the Denver Tebows lost to Tom Brady and the Brady Belichicks.  At least we got a nifty Kindle commercial out of it.
