My 7-year-old is getting a basic $79 Kindle for Christmas from his grandfather.  I want to get a good cover, one that will protect the K from drops.  Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you!

I think the M-Edge cover might be a good choice.  You can get it in colors and many of the styles have closure options.   Price is moderate and quality is good.

I'd agree. They come in nylon/ballistic material. Easier to maintain for a 7 year old or the parent.

The best one, I think, in terms of not adding bulk but still providing protection, is the Belkin. . . .but it doesn't appear to be available any more.  Sad

The stock cover, which comes with or without a light, is nice in that it is very light. . .good rubber bumper holds the thing in tight.  But there's no real closure and I find the leather a bit slick.

The Marware is also nice; comes in a variety of colors and styles, and has a nice feel.  Most of the styles do not add much weight.  But they're generally designed to fit either the basic Kindle or the Touch; with the basic Kindle you're left with a half inch or so around the device which may or may not be annoying to you.  I, personally, like it to fit pretty much exactly. Undecided  JIVO is similar.  From the descriptions, there might be a similar issue with MEdge products.

I bought a "JKase" cover for my wife's Kindle and it's quite nice, and only $7.98. If you search for "JKase" on Amazon, you'll find a wide range of covers from them at more reasonable prices than most others.

Jan, do you feel the JKase is protective enough for a little boy who may be more prone to drops?  He's always been very careful with my Kindle but you never know.
