 Can anyone tell me how to make a formal complaint to amazon, re. my kindle screen problem, as amazon seem to have closed for the holiday's

Are you talking about Customer Support?  I haven't checked their call lines to check their hours, but they are:
Inside the United States: 1-866-321-8851, Outside the United States: 1-206-266-0927

I would actually be shocked if they didn't have at least a skeleton staff working in Kindle Support over the weekend, with all those new Kindles and Kindle Fires being received for Christmas and theoretically at least some portion of those excited recipients will have questions and/or problems.  With Amazon's legendary service, I'm sure they'd pay staff good money for working some hours over the holiday.

They are not closed.  I called them around 3:30pm today and spoke to a customer service rep.   Smiley
