Merry Christmas Everyone. New to the forum and came looking for help.
I purchased 4 Kindle Fires for my dear wife and our 3 daughters. Also gifted them all the Kindle gift card. We added all the giftcards to everyone accounts. Registered the Fires with Amazon.
My question is on my 16 yr old daughters Kindle it keeps asking for a credit card to be added to her account? She can't download anything without the error popping up on her kindle. Even free games and apps.
Obviously I prefer not to add my credit card to her account! There has to be way around this correct? I turned off 1 click purchase on her amazon account. Any ideas so she can start enjoying her Christmas gift?
Thanks for any help..... Enjoy the holidays everyone!

As far as I know you have to have a credit card listed on Amazon even if you are using gift cards. I don't know if a visa gift card, or a prepaid would work, I've never tried that.

My biggest concern is security. While she is at school or even if someone gets a hold of her Fire they could have a field day before I found out. What are other members doing for there children that have a Fire?

Thank you for the great suggestion Leslie. I wasn't even aware I could do that. So whatever one buys they can all see and share the content? Like games, books, anything?

When I first got my account I had a Cc on it just to set up the account. I removed it within a couple of days. and now I only use gift cards. It has been about 2 yr's. You can do it in manage your kindle.

I have my kids Kindle and Fires registered to my account. That way, I know exactly what they're purchasing and when . And being able to share content is a huge plus.

Yes. I just gave my son a Fire for Christmas and he's busy downloading books, apps, and more from my Amazon archive. L

Thanks for the help everyone. I will hook them to my Amazon. The only problem now is each one of them already entered their gift card codes on there accounts. Of course this was before we knew what we were doing. Next question, if they use the $50 gift card to purchase stuff on there accounts then go to mine they won't be able to use the purchased items correct? Is there a way to move to the gift card codes to my account? Darn I wish I knew more about this ahead of time. Of course I was also misled by the CSR at Best Buy who told me none of this would be a problem. Unless maybe he didn't know either.

I understand that, but I think you have to set up the account with a credit or debit card to start with.

They should be able to shift all the money to your account. I share with several people and it is great.

Put your CC on their account long enough to set up the fire, then delete the card. It should work with just GCs after that.

The Fire is a bit different from the regular Kindles. While you can set it up without a CC, and use only Giftcards for books, it won't let you buy apps (even free ones) without a CC on record. I don't know about music or movies, haven't tried those. I know a few people have purchased "prepaid" Visas to use to avoid this problem. However, if they don't mind sharing content, I would strongly recommend putting them all on the same account. Four separate accounts means you have to buy 4 different Prime memberships for free movies, etc. It makes a lot more sense from an economic standpoint to share.
As for the gift cards already applied, try calling customer service and talking to them. You can't move the cards once you've applied them but Amazon is famous for their customer service. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they agreed to do it for you. Can't hurt to try.

Another possibility is you could try the one time use cc numbers you can generate from your cc account online. You can usually put dollar limit on them.

Registering them to the parent's account is a great security feature.

Thanks everyone for the help. I ended up putting all 4 on my Amazon account. I called Amazon and they moved the gift cards to my account as well. Very nice CSR I spoke with. We appreciate your help...
