In today's Target ad it states that you can "get a $50 coupon to use towards any Kindle when you trade in your old one." This may be a good deal for those of you who have been wanting to upgrade and you have no need for your old Kindle.

The ad states that this offer is available only at stores with Target Mobile. The coupon must be redeemed for the new Kindle at time of trade-in transaction, and the Kindle must be in working condition.

I looked at that for my daughter - I think in reality it's for "up to" $50 when you read the fine print - but I'm still going to let her know about it - sounds like she could get about $50 for both her K2 and her original Nook combined.  Unless they really are giving $50 right now.  Worth checking into anyway, although she could probably do better on eBay.

I am looking at the Target print ad and I don't see any indication that it's "up to" $50. The fine print at the bottom reads "Guest will receive a coupon valued at $50 to use towards the purchase of a...Kindle." But the info on the website mentioned in the ad (http://www.target.nextworth.com/) does make you wonder.

I do think they'll give you $50 for the in-store Kindle trade-in, though. It looks like it's a special promotion since the coupon can only be used for a new Kindle purchase. The trade-in website issues a Target GiftCard that can be used for any merchandise.

Added: Just thought I'd mention that Amazon also has electronics trade in: http://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Trade-In/b?ie=UTF8&node=2226766011. They pay via Amazon.com Gift Card.

It was the Nextworth info that made me question whether you'd get the entire $50.  Hopefully someone will check it out - or maybe I will if I get out for some post-Christmas bargain-hunting tomorrow.  Or maybe I shouldn't - I'm not really in the market for a new one - if they did offer me $50 off I might not be able to resist!  LOL

Thanks for this! I totally forgot about it. I'm going to bookmark it, in case I decide to sell a Kindle in the future.

I'm going to look into this. It sounds great. I imagine they'll refurbish the old ones and sell them at a discount.

My K1 is still ticking over just fine, thank you. I recently bought a K3K. I loaned it to my Mom and she'll get the use of it until my K1 dies. I bought it now because I really don't want another touch screen and I figured they'd be discontinuing the K3K. Amazon dropped the price $40 and I had $50 in reward points, so I got it for $50 anyway.

Only trouble with my K1, it doesn't support Amazon Prime library lending.

I don't have a K1, so I can't test this myself, but I have read that you can borrow from the Amazon Prime lending library. Here's how to do it:

  • On a computer, visit this Amazon Prime Eligible Books search link.
  • When you find the book you want to borrow, go to its product page on your computer.
  • Send a sample to your K1.
  • On your K1, open the sample to "buy" it.  You should then see the option to borrow.

I hope that works!

This should work for you, Gertie...I think I've searched Prime Lending this way.

I don't think so, jbc, Target has a nationwide electronics exchange program...here's the link for 2d gen Kindle exchange link:

I believe that the offer is restricted to Target stores that have Target Mobile inside (1,490 stores nationwide). You can check to see if there's a store near you here.

As far as how long the offer is valid, there is no expiration date given in the print ad, so I assume that it will end on December 31st, when the other offers in the weekly ad expire. One thing to keep in mind is that you will need to purchase the new Kindle at the time of trade-in. So you'd want to make sure the Kindle you want is in stock.

Shouldn't this work for any of the Kindles? It seems easier than trying to find them on the K.

On newer Kindles, there is a very easy menu selection to push to browse Prime books...that menu option is not available on the K1.  So you have to browse on the a computer and then either note the name of the book or send a sample to the K.  And yes, I think it's easier in any case to browse on the computer, I never browse, Prime or not, on my K.  But the link on the newer K's is pretty nice.

Same here.  I never browse for books on my K3 Keyboard.  I always use my computer to purchase ebooks too.

I was in Target today and the $50 is a special promotion.  The clerk had to check a box that made my K2 go from $15 to $50 on trade in value.

Going to Target today with my daughter - told her to bring her K2 with, that it could be a late Christmas/early b'day gift for her if they have a model she wants.  The Target I went to yesterday was pretty picked over for Kindles.  Hopefully our other local one will have more variety of the Keyboard models left.  I asked my DH about it (he also has a K2) but he's happy with what he's got.  And he doesn't use it much anyway.
