Hi! Happy holidays, first of all.

So, I need a light for my Touch, but I'm lost in a sea of options... which are the ones specially made for this model?

I'm also thinking about the lighted case from amazon, but the more I read about it, the more I think is better to stay away from it. Any thoughts/experiences about this case?

Well, thank you very much in advance, I know the experts here will throw some nice suggestions.

Welcome, and happy holidays!

As the Touch is so new, there aren't many accessories that are specifically designed for it yet compared to the other models. Lights are one area the manufacturers are still scrambling to catch up on.

If you prefer to read without a case, this thread may help. A number of lights are detailed in there. I had the same problem a few weeks ago, and settled on the current model of the Octovo Solis. More details on Octovo's plans to adapt that model are in that thread, and the pros and cons of using the current version (designed for the K3/Keyboard model) are also detailed in there. Personally, I adore mine.

If you prefer to read with a case, honestly, I'd go with the Amazon Lighted one. While yes, there are some negative reviews, the overall impression I've gotten from those who have it both here and on MobileRead is very positive. It's tough to find a light that covers the page evenly, without glare, and it sounds like Amazon got that right. If I were the type to use a case for reading, it would be my first choice.

I do like Amazon's lighted case for the Touch.  I find it a much better design than the lighted case for the Kindle Keyboard.  It fits the Touch beautifully.  Normally I'm a "sleeve" person, I don't like the big elaborate cases, but this one is very sleek and doesn't get in the way at all and I leave it on the Touch all the time.  The one complaint I've seen on the boards that I agree with is if you, for whatever reason, look "up" toward your Kindle, the light will shine in your eyes.  It's not a normal position for me so I have no problem with it, but I can see where it might be if you tend to read while laying down.

There are clip on options, but I really hate having to carry around an extra light (plus spare batteries).

It is quite pricy, but worth it in my opinion.

I really like the lighted case for my K4 (not the Touch).  While waiting for it to ship, I was using the Belkin Folio case and a book light. I really missed having the "built in" book light from my K3 and lighted cover. I definitely prefer the lighted cover for my K4. No messing around with having to remember to pack the light if I travel, etc. It's just there and no batteries to mess with.

I also should have mentioned that the location of the light in the lighted cover is in a much better location. I like that it opens to the left and hangs over the middle of the screen. When I am done reading, all I have to do is close the cover and the light will be shut off as the cover will push the light into the closed position.

Honestly, I don't think there is ANY light that will totally bathe the screen evenly, unless it is super bright - and I am very sensitive to lights (migraines), or the light arm will get in the way of reading, etc. I want the book light to totally disappear when I am reading. I think the ONLY thing that I would like different with this light is to have recessed the LED bulb even more than it is, or maybe make the end so that it can be rotated toward the screen. However, I think that is maybe more my own sensitivity to the light issues.  I'd still buy it again if I had to.

My favorite external light is the M-Edge E-Luminator.  It has a tab that slides in between the Kindle and the cover, I love it.

I think you'll love the Amazon lighted cover when it arrives. It is so convenient to have the light right there when you need it, but if you don't need it, it's completely out of the way and not distracting. The light works great covering the screen too. It's definitely my favorite cover for the kindles.

You won't regret it. I love it and I love how the Kindle sits inside with no straps. I just hope I never need to remove it. I haven't figured that out yet. Grin

Ha!! I found that by carefully "bending" the top right corner just a bit, the Kindle corner kind of popped out of the case. Well, just a little... then I was able to get the Kindle out.  But thankfully, it wasn't very easy. I'd hate to think that the Kindle would come out easily by accident, but it CAN be done!! Smiley

Thanks, I wasn't sure how to remove. I think I read in another thread to bend the corner but was afraid I would ruin it. I really love the way it sits in the cover.
