Yes.  My law clerk and judge always carry theirs in their suit pocket.

Seriously, though, I checked a couple of hubby's casual jackets (not sports coats but real jackets) and they fit in the breast pocket on those, too....  (He also gave up wearing suits some time ago.)

Well, I have four suits and the pockets are probably slightly different sizes, but from the responses so far it sounds like it will probably fit them.  I'm hoping to carry it in the pocket without needing to get a case, it will be much easier for me than digging it out of my stuff I need to lug around each day.  Thanks for the info!

I think it will fit, Lee, but do be aware that even carrying it on your person, the suit isn't going to provide much protection for the Kindle.  If somebody bumps into you hard or something it might still be damaged.

OTOH, it might deflect a bullet and save your life, so there's that.

note that this cover, the Amazon cover, does not add much bulk at all (I looked at Ann's and was amazed at how little it adds):



So you could get some protection and still fit it in a jacket pocket.  I think most of the pockets I tried had enough slack to easily accommodate the K in this cover.

Pssstt...Ann, maybe you could check with some of Ed's suits...he does have some suits, doesn't he?

'kay. . .so fortunately I didn't have to dig too far into the back of the closet as he'd just worn a suit at Christmas.   I actually tried it in 3 different ones plus his tuxedo.  The K4 with Amazon case Betsy linked to in her post fit in all pockets.  It's a close fit, but it fit.  Fit better in the more expensive suit -- went all the way into the pocket which was apparently deeper -- though not as well in the tuxedo pocket.

I imagine if the suits are tailored, a flat square thing that barely fits the pocket is going to look odd sticking out of your chet.

People may think you're wearing a heart-monitor or a wire.

Well, of course, I didn't put my husband's jacket on to check, but the smallest Kindle -- K4 -- is really low profile.  On a well tailored suit I would imagine it would not be particularly noticeable.  The suits certainly didn't hang differently on the hanger with the thing in the pocket. . . . . .

I just know that a few suits I own, larger objects tend to stick out when placed in the breast pocket.

I prefer a sleeve that will absolutely stay closed when dropped, and will offer at least a little resistance to water infiltrating on the sides, plus I prefer to actually read my Kindle "nekkid", so I bought this "official" Amazon zip sleeve:



It is barely larger than the K4, so should fit into most places where the K4 fits with any extra room.  My one suit has all the pockets sewn shut to keep me from bulking it up this way, so I can't test it directly!  It is a sort of canvasy fabric, so not particularly plush or fancy looking.

Wow, you folks are beyond helpful!  I really appreciate it.

I measured my suits.  I think it will fit in three of them, in the fourth one it might be pretty tight or wouldn't fit.

I'm referring not to the outside pocket but rather the inside pocket.  I guess the outside pocket is what's called the breast pocket, so clearly I don't know much about suits, even though I wear them every day...  It probably reflects my dislike for suits and having to wear them!  Sorry for causing the confusion.

Although this makes me wonder if the Kindle in the inside pocket would case a weird-looking bulge.  I suppose I can always order the K4 and if it doesn't work out, send it back.

Thanks so much, Ann, for checking out your husband's suits!  Betsy, that's a great thought about the cover.  I may order that cover, then I can always send the cover back if it doesn't fit with the K4.  Hooded Claw, thanks for the recommendation as well -- I'll definitely check it out.  Deb, that's good to know about your law clerk and judge.  I'm a court reporter myself, so what's good enough for them is fine for me!

To be clear, it fits in the inside pocket, in the Amazon case. . . .didn't even try the outside lapel pocket.  That's for a fancily folded handkerchief.

As to pictures. . . .I actually have a few of him in the tux. . .but it turns out our friend who took the pictures doesn't know how to do so without making us all look like crazed devils and I've not got the technology to fix 'em.  But he didn't have the kindle in his pocket at the time anyway. . . . .

Oh no, I'm the one who mispoke. I did mean the inside pocket. I hate wearing suits too.
I used to wear suits in my old job, but not anymore thanks to the economy. There is a brighter side to everything.

I have the Kindle Basic and it will fit, naked, into the cargo pocket on my pants. I wouldn't want to carry it there, or in a coat pocket, without a case because pressure can destroy the screen. In a case, the Basic does not fit into my cargo pocket.

So I did end up ordering a K4.  Everything worked out exactly as I had hoped.  It fits easily into the jacket pocket of all four suits.  It's light enough that it doesn't weigh the suit down or make it look unbalanced.  I didn't get the Amazon cover, because I wanted to keep size and bulk to a minimum, but I did get the Amazon sleeve that Hooded Claw recommended, to have something to put it in when it wasn't in the jacket pocket, or if I'm taking it outside when I'm dressed casual.  It's so much easier now for me on the subway, I can just slide it right out of my jacket pocket to read, without having to dig it out of my stuff.

On another note, I have to say I'm really surprised and pleased at how great the K4 is.  I've always wanted to read Kindles without covers, but it just never felt comfortable doing so, until now.  Functions seem to happen quicker now than on the K3.  The lack of a keyboard to me makes the interface seem more intuitive.  The ads are unobtrusive. 

When the Touch was first announced I thought I had to have it.  Then I changed my mind and cancelled my preorder.  Now I'm glad I did.  I really do like having the page turn buttons, and I love the small size and weight of the K4.  I'm a happy camper.
