I recently received a Kindle Touch for Christmas (yay! Smiley ) and was happy that the screensavers weren't, at first, advertisements though I kind of missed the old screensavers that my Mom's version of the Kindle had.  However, I liked the sceensavers very much - until they suddenly turned into advertisements.  They became either advertisements for movies, for gift cards, for 3G/4G, etc. instead of the original art.  If anyone can shed light on how to change to something other than advertisements, I would greatly appreciate it as I think the advertisements greatly decrease the attractiveness of my Kindle Touch.  Much appreciated for any input at all!

Sounds like you have a Special Offers Kindle -- it didn't show ads until you turned the wireless on for the first time.

On the Amazon account the Kindle is registered to, under the Manage Your Kindle section, is a section for Manage Your Devices, in that section there should be a selection for your Kindle where you can Unsubscribe from the Special Offers (you may need to pay a fee that amounts to the discount given for a Special Offers Kindle in order to unsubscribe).

I agree that you have a "special offers" kindle.

Go to Manage Your Kindle and Manage Your Devices.  You'll have the option to unsubscribe from special offers.  With the Touch it will cost you $40 to do so.  If you later change your mind -- some of the deals are pretty good -- you can always resubscribe though you won't get credit back for doing so.

Yes, sounds like special offers. When my wife was Christmas shopping, I told her (in these words and in CAPS lock where shown): "I want a Kindle 3G Touch with Wifi with NO SPECIAL OFFERS. Make sure you're on the one that says specifically NO SPECIAL OFFERS!!!!!" lol

Amazon pretty much already tells you about all of their special and promotions in an email. They don't get in the way of reading while inside a book, but I just hate the idea of being a walking billboard for Amazon advertising. It's equivalent to having advertising that I can't turn off on my desktop PC or laptop, in my opinion.

I understand why they do it, and I'm glad it drops the price a little bit, and I know some people don't care, but it bugs me to have it on mine. Sad

You could always return it to Amazon then buy the one you want. (Just a bit of advice, tell your wife before you do it - don't ask me why I know this is a good idea. )
