I have  a Kindle DX and recently, for some reason I lost all my books and files. When I connected to my P.C and opened the device all I had was a folder called RECYCLER with nothing in it. I then found that the Kindle was deregistered. I re-registered it and got back all my books etc, but it still will not appear correctly on my P.C.
I still have the folder RECYCLER. I have contacted Amazon told told me it is a computer problem. This makes sense as it will charge from the P.C OK.
As I am visually impaired and studying it is vital to me to get it fixed.
Can anyone help me please.

Hi, littleal. Welcome to Kindleboards!

I've moved your topic to our Tips, Tricks and Troubleshooting board as I think you'll get a better response there.

If you think this is a computer problem then try using a different USB port and/or a different cable to connect. Do you have another computer or could someone let you use theirs to see if it works on that. If you try all that and it still doesn't work then it's more likely to be a device problem.

If so, and you haven't already tried restarting your Kindle, I would do that first of all. (Menu-->Settings-->Menu-->Restart).

If that doesn't help then I'm inclined to suggest that you do a reset to factory defaults. (Menu-->Settings-->Menu-->Reset to Factory Defaults). BE AWARE though, that this option will remove all your books and content to your Amazon archive - be sure to make a backup of any non Amazon books or documents. This should put everything on the device back to where it was when you first took it out of the box. If it doesn't, then I'm not sure how else you could recover the apparently lost folders/files.

Let us know how you get on.

Do you have Windows 7? I had almost the same problem when I tried to download a book through the usb port. W7 doesn't recognize my Kindle.
