I got it today with the Audible.com $100 coupon offer. Got the new Stephen King audio book for my first Audible purchase and got the SO to Tom Clancy's Dead or Alive audio book for free, which I'm downloading now. (Thank you everyone that posted it.)

I've loaded quite a few books on here. I had the complete runs of the Shadow and Doc Savage as txt files and loaded every one of them on here. took FOREVER to get the 330+ Shadow novels in a collection, but a hard reset when I was done and the Touch was as speedy as when it was empty. (Thankfully txt files are so small.)

Have about 60 other books from True Crime to Tolkien and Game of Thrones loaded on here too. I saw the reading club forum for Martin's books, so I'm going to have to jump in there once that starts.

PDFs are a no go. Too hard for most of them to be read. I have the complete Calvin & Hobbes as a single PDF. Going to landscape would be spectacular with these, but in portrait mode it's just too small. Zooming in on a four panel strip will wear on my patience, so I might just skip it. Converting comics to a mobi file are also a waste. They all get "squished" and are unreadable. I did see that IDW has some of their comics on the Kindle store, and broke them down enough to read them easily. Pity they seem to have stopped supporting the Kindle format. Nothing any newer than 2009. I would have loved to have had the entire run of Cobra on here. It's easily the best political thriller this side of Tom Clancy or Vince Flynn, revolving around the bad guys from GI Joe and the Joe that infiltrates them.

Got a few word puzzles loaded too. Played with those a bit tonight while watching TV.

I was really worried that I'd have a problem with the wifi, since I run off of our county's free service, and i need a monster C Crane antenna just to get a strong signal for my laptop. Sure enough tho, it worked just fine. Ok. I have to stand next to the bathroom window (mental image of needing to lean out a window with rabbit ears to pick up a faraway analog TV signal), but it connected and registered easily enough. Everything else I'm okay with just downloading from my laptop to the Kindle.

I do regret not getting a small light for this. I'll see if I can find one locally. A clip on will do fine. Of course I did just get a free Kindle and a free $35 audio book along with a half-price Stephen King audio book, so I'd still be ahead if I splurged on the $60 lighted case. Smiley

Welcome to the Kindle Boards - for sure the friendliest and best place to get Kindle information or just hang out enjoying other people's experiences. Have a question for you, Where did you get the Doc Savage books? Were they free? Or did you scan them in?

Michael,

welcome to KindleBoards!  Congratulations on the new Kindle Touch!

It sounds like you're having fun with your Kindle.  There's another Audible freebie--a George RR Martin book that you should be able to get:
http://www.audible.com/int/Free_For_Mem

I was able to get it--I have an account but am not currently paying for a membership.  You're a member, so it shouldn't be a problem!
