The Moon in Deep Winter
by Lee Polevoi

$0.99
Kindle Edition published 2008-01-10
Bestseller ranking: 460964

Product Description
This literary thriller revolves around Parker Sloane. When he returns from a dismal foray into third-world cash-smuggling to his childhood home in the woods of New England, it seems he’s seeing his country and his blended stepfamily for the first time—and finding both just as twitchy, desperate, paranoid and unpredictable as the underworld types he thought he’d escaped.

Before he can even unpack, Parker goes head-to-head with his relatives—his tyrannical stepfather, seething younger brother, newly evangelical mother, and his alluring younger half-sister Rita—and with the demons they never exorcised.

Delicately but disastrously, Parker attempts to keep his family from imploding, unaware that they have their own plans for escape. The Moon in Deep Winter combines the dark comedy of the Coen brothers with the doomed lyricism of Denis Johnson, creating an airtight world of homicidal family dysfunction.

I received my MyPoints Amazon gift certificates a couple of days ago, and registered them into my Amazon account- so I now have $150 just sitting there.......

Waiting for me to order my Kindle.
So even though I'm traveling right now, I've decided that now would be the time to take the plunge (with free shipping)!

So wish me luck, and keep your fingers crossed that it gets delivered before I go to NYC next month...

I've got butterflies!

UPDATE!

Amazon wasn't supposed to ship it until the 17th, and I got notification this morning that it has already shipped!!
USPS of course, but at least it's on it's way.... The post office has no record of it, but in the Amazon 'where's my stuff' page it's been started on it's journey. I'll be checking it out multiple times daily!!!

I want it NOW!!!!!!!

I'm so jealous, I'm still waiting until September to order mine. Hopefully the price will drop a little.

Congratulations. I got the free shipping, too, and I'm still waiting for it to arrive, though it has shipped (two days ago). I keep running to the door thinking I hear the UPS truck and it's always a false alarm.

I went with the K2 because I want it with me EVERYWHERE- and the DX is too cumbersome for me to carry with me. The DX would be good for DH or around the house, but the books I read don't have the graphics that would be optimized in the DX.

So Junior Kindle for me...... maybe a DX later on for Hubby!

Congrats!!!!

So much patience from all of you who use the free shipping.  I can't wait for stuff like that--it's two-day at best and overnight if it's something I REALLY want.  Cheesy  Thanks heavens for Amazon Prime!

lol this is how I was when I was waiting for mine to be delivered. I had it overnighted and incurred (over time) like $105 in overdraft charges on my bank account because I couldn't be patient. Gotta say, though, it was worth it.

I chose the free shipping for my K2 and once it finally shipped from Amazon it only took 2 days to get here from UPS.

Wow, that's fast shipping!

I ended up ordering it this morning, because I got the dreaded 'IE has encountered a problem and needs to close" message right after I added it to my shopping cart.

I did get a netbook warranty at SquareTrade at 40% off though- because DH ordered me one of those for my birthday and I didn't want to spend the $$ on their warranty. I saved $40 on it.........  Grin

I plan on getting my Kindle warrantied with them also, but am waiting for it to arrive before doing so. I have a code for 20% off- wish it were more, but oh well.......

WELL!!!

I hardly had time to go on Kindle Watch......

I ordered it last Friday, and it arrived TODAY!!!
It's now getting charged, and I've already turned off the Whispernet. Haven't bought any books yet, but I have a whole list of free ones to choose from.

I found it in the mailbox when I got home from work/workout- and very patiently waited for DH to get home so that we could open the box together.

AND, the best part is that I can get familiar with it before taking it to NYC next month!!
Now if I could make that 30% off code at SquareTrade work for my warranty.........

If you twitter, you can follow Square Trade @ http://twitter.com/SquareTrade

Last week they offered a Deal of the Day for 35% off Kindle Warranties. I'll be following their tweets very closely looking for that one again for my mom.

Thanks so much for the Twitter link!

I kicked myself this week because they ran that 35% off Kindle warranty on Monday, and I forgot to check the daily deal.  Angry

So I'm on the prowl again! It's a good thing that I have 90 days to buy my warranty.....  Roll Eyes

But only 30 days for the accidental...(unless they changed it)

I didn't know about the deal of the day. I ordered my mom's K2 on Monday (kicking myself now) Hopefully they'll do it again before her window is up.

I'm watching it now because they said they'll have special iPhone deals. I'm about to get a new one shortly.

Congratulations on the iPhone!

You're right about the ADH option, I'll have to buy before my 30 days is up.
There are a couple of 30% off codes, but evidently if they're used after 6 pm, they only take off 20%.

Go to www.retailmenot.com and enter squaretrade.com in the search box. It will bring up some codes that work and some that are iffy.

I might be trying one of those tomorrow before 6 to see if I can get one of them to work for the 30%. That way the ADH clause would only cost $2.50 instead of $25.

Be sure to post your results if you find something!

I admire those of you who went with free shipping. I'd have never made it! (My Kindle was a Mother's Day gift from my wonderful family, and I knew nothing at all about it, so I didn't have to go through the anguish of checking the tracking information hourly for days.)

I know you'll love yours as much as the rest of us love ours. It is truly the best gift I've ever received.  (Well, it is my favorite gift except for the sentimental things that my daughters bought or made for me over the years. Nothing will ever take the place of some of those things.)

As for the extended warranty, I wish I'd bought one for my Kindle, which I received on May 8. We were in the midst of preparing for my daughter's wedding on June 6, and I let the time get away from me without purchasing the warranty. I'm going to have to be extra careful with my pride and joy!
