Now that I have a pretty in my hands, I want to start finding great books in the genres I like.  (I already scanned the thread pinned above but it's everything mashed together.) Anyone have recommendations that fit what I enjoy reading?

I want to support indie authors.  I enjoy reading science fiction, fantasy, ya, romance and some nonfiction.  I don't enjoy anything with excessive profanity, sex or violence.

Just to keep things unbiased, you can't recommend anything you wrote.

Thanks all!

Congrats on the new Kindle!

And, to reiterate your comment, authors, you are not allowed to recommend your own books...because this IS the Book Corner, and self promo is only allowed in the Book Bazar.   Cheesy

Sabrina, you might skim the threads in the Book Corner, there are already some threads On this, I think.

Congratulations and start loading up!

As Betty said, you'll find threads focused on most genres here...currently there is one on dystopian fiction not far down.

Welcome, Sabrina! I'm sure you were hooked on your Kindle after five minutes, like I was. My most recent indie read was Chenda and the Airship Brofman by Emilie P. Bush. It's part steampunk, part fantasy, and I enjoyed her writing style.

The above is a three book volume by one of our early members. . . .science fiction. . . but atypical for the genre and enjoyable on many levels.  There are also 3 other books that are 'prequel' volumes. . . .If you follow the link the page gives you details about the order to read the books.

There are a few Indies authors I would recommend:

Mainak Dhar - he's an Indian author who writes a range of sf & f styles from alt history to superheroes to zombies.

Daniel Arenson - predominantly fantasy

Kathy Bell - Just finished a great scifi trilogy

All three are available one Amazon and I've enjoyed everything I've read by them.

Welcome, Sabrina!

You might like Ruth Nestvold's Yseult.  It's a historical romance/adventure set in the time of King Arthur and based on the legend of Tristan and Isolde.

There's also a hard sci-fi novella out by Brad Beaulieu and Stephen Gaskell, called Strata.

You could try Treasure of Egypt and The Emperor's Edge, I think those would fit your parameters, written by a couple excellent Indie writers.
