Are many of you using the Kindle lending library and what do you think of it?

I use it and like it. But.. I don't like the limit of one book per month. Maybe an even exchange where you get to borrow as many as you lend per month would make me happy. I see 56 sitting in my "read" folder..

Well, they are two different programs, users lending their books they've purchased and borrowing a book not purchased. Amazon trying to sell books....

Yes, I was thinking of the new one (I think it's new because it's not available in the UK so I just noticed it). Books that have been made available for the lending library can be borrowed by Amazon users in the US who are Prime members. I was wondering if people were using it, if they like it, and also it sounds like good value for money but I don't know how much Prime membership costs. If it's not a high amount it does sound like a good way to get access to a lot of books for free a month at a time. It sounds as if people aren't too aware of it yet.

As this is more of a general discussion rather than a book discussion, I'm going to move this to Let's Talk Kindle. Thanks for understanding.

I like it so far. I was able to borrow a book from Amazon that had a very long wait list on Lendle and BookLending, and isn't available at my library.

Amazon has to pay publishers for the right to lend books to you. Given what else you get for your $79 per year, one book per month is very reasonable.

That does sound reasonable. I wasn't sure how much it cost. They pay publishers depending on the number of times a book is borrowed but I'm not sure how much as it's quite complicated to understand the payment structure! But I think the important thing for publishers, authors and readers is probably the availability of books rather than the money. A lending library is just a good idea in my opinion.

It's such a pity this isn't available in the UK and I do wonder if it will be available soon. I like it that it also includes an easy way to offer special 'free' days, although they're limited to 5 per month.

I am reading my first book from the Lending Library. When I am done with it, I will return it for another. If I complete it before I can borrow another one, what the heck, I have about 300 books sitting on my Kindle to chose from.

Betsy, do we get paid for downloads during the 5 day promotions? Mine are going on tomorrow as I finally figured out how to take advantage of this. Please let me know as I'm a little confused how this works.

Beatriz, that's a question for your peers in the Writers' Café. Being neither an author, let alone in the Select Program, nor affiliated with Amazon in any way except as a Kindle owner, I don't know. Sorry. But someone in the Café will know. Betsy
