First of all I LOVE my Kindle 3.  It is my first and only Kindle.
I don't want a browser etc.  I have a smartphone and a computer for that.

I love the battery life and the ease of reading.  For Christmas I asked for Amazon gift cards so between using the cards, books from the daily deal, and library I should be able to read until next Christmas or at least my July birthday.

The one thing I would like is to be able  to highlight a word and then search, rather than typing in.

I guess the Kindle 3 is being phased out.  Too bad.

That would be a nice feature but you are correct in assuming that you have to type what you are searching for. It's not a big deal if you get used to the K3 keyboard.

This is possible on my K2 and should be possible on the Kindle Keyboard. I used this to look up phrases and words not in the dictionary.

Start highlighting the word or phrase but end the highlight by pressing the spacebar instead of pressing the 5-way controller. The highlighted text should show in the text box with "find" on the right. Pressing the 5-way controller on the right moves the cursor to the end of the text and then changes the action to the choices of "my items", "store", "google", "wikipedia", "dictionary", and "note". (The list of actions might differ between versions.)

Does the K3 work the same way?

The one thing I would like is to be able  to highlight a word and then search, rather than typing in.

Move to the start of the word and press the controller as if you were going to to highlighting then right click over the word, and then hit the space bar (this is essentially highlighting the word but then instead of clicking the controller to finish the highlight hit the space bar instead).

The word is now in the "note" box.  Click down to the options, and then click right which reveals "find", "my items", "store", "Google", "Wikepedia".

Edit - as I was typing Annalog wrote a reply.  Yes, it works the same as the K2.

Vlad is back, and this time he's hungry. I mean, really hungry. I could explain the plot of this one, but I think I'm going to eat, instead.  Steven Brust's synopsis of Druz.

I always do a search of a name in a book when I don't remember exactly who they were or what they have done. I use the K3's keyboard for doing it.
Does this highlighting the word and "find" work to look in the book that we are reading only?

It works that way on my K2.

I always typed it in the search on my K2 as well as my K3. I'll give the highlight a try. Thanks!

Yes it does! Really useful feature, shame it's hidden away!
