I have my kindle 2 weeks now (yes it was a Christmas gift). In the beginning it showed the meaning of words if i went there with my cursor. I have put some more books on it, and now it doesn't show anything anymore if i put my cursor next to the word. It only shows highlight or note ??
How can i fix this ? English is not my native language and i would like to know the explanation of some words in my books again !
Thanks

You should check to make sure that the dictionary is still on your Kindle. It sounds like it may have been accidentally removed. If that is the case, you can go to the Manage Your Kindle page and re-send the dictionary to the Kindle.

Welcome freeb0. . . .
It would help us to help you if we knew which Kindle you had. . then we can verify exactly how it's supposed to work and give you the steps.

Home, Menu, Settings, Menu, there's an option to Change Primary Dictionary.
Go in there and make sure your dictionary is selected. Maybe try switching to a different dictionary and back again.

tried both of those things and it didnt work How about this... are you making sure you aren't pressing the center button once you've navigated to the word? I've done this with my K4 a few times. I hit the arrow keys to get to the word and then accidentally press the center button. Instead of seeing the definition, I am being asked about highlighted or typing a note.

It's a good thought, for dictionary lookup you need to put the cursor just before the word and wait a moment for it to do the lookup. If you try to highlight the word it will put you into the note mode. Failing that, I'm out of ideas. Try a restart (Home, Menu, Settings, Menu, Restart), if that doesn't help I'd get in touch with Kindle Customer Support: http://www.kindleboards.com/index.php/topic,73465.msg1181468.html#msg1181468

I'm not aware that things work any differently on a K4, over to Kindle Support I guess.
Let us know if they come up with an answer!

It works the same way for the K4, Morf. Though some words, it doesn't look up--prepositions, and one of my words that has a em (long) dash immediately after it. Betsy

i think the problem with the dictionary not working is because i converted a pdf book from school to mobi because the kindle is too small for a pdf file and its very uncomfortable to read when you have to zoom in all the time.
