Award-winning author Ed Gorman is re-releasing two of his best mystery books The Day the Music Died and Wake Up Little Susie together in one Kindle edition for the first time. These wonderful crime stories feature a vulnerable young PI named Sam McCain. As the titles suggest, they are filled with 1950's nostalgia (stuff I actually do remember) and suffused with a dry sense of humor. I recommend them highly.

Full disclosure, Ed is a friend and colleague, but I don't have anything to do with the project. It just seems like a lot of the folks on this board would enjoy the Sam McCain books.

Ed Gorman is one of the masters of the genre. I remember being in awe of him when I first started writing. He should be read by anyone who is serious about the craft of writing... no joke. And the titles.... I read BAD MOON RISING recently (he moved into the Sixties for that one) but the earlier ones? Hey gang.. want to know what your parents were doing back then?

Read Ed Gorman.

Kind of embarrassed to admit that I've never read any Ed Gorman! Maybe this is the jumping-in point.

My God, Ed Gorman is a treasure!

I have loved pretty much everything hard-boiled he's ever written, though I admit somehow I missed these music-related mysteries! This means I have something new (to me) to look forward to!

He's done some great horror-tinged stuff, too. See The Poker Club, for instance.

Anyone who liked mysteries, especially of the noir and hard-boiled style, will enjoy Ed's work.

I've reviewed a fair number of his earlier books, and some of those reviews should still be online at Chizine.com, if you use my name to search.

Good luck to Ed in this new venture, and happy reading to anyone who hasn't read him yet!

I liked these in particular because of the nostalgia and dry humor. He evokes that time and place in so many sweet and simple ways.

I really have to quit my job. Not enough time for reading!

I'd advise anyone keen on mysteries to read Ed Gorman.  He's my favourite crime writer.  In the UK his books are hard to find in any bookshops - so I'm pleased they are coming out on the Kindle.

These first two Sam McCains are also available seperaterly, and Wake Up Little Suzie is free on Amazon Prime. They have Ed's dark plot lines and cynicism, coupled with songs and incidents and historical facts that tune us in to that glossed over era.

Ed Gorman is terrific. Plus he gave me my first ever smash review -- it's still up as a call-out on the banner of my website.
