Yep. . . using Kindle for PC. . . . Cheesy

Cool.  Although I don't use collections much.  But that sounds like a solution to the OP's question.

I just need a way to organize which books I've already read. Is there a way to click on the title and see how far into the book you are?

The little dots underneath the book title show that, as long as you don't jump back to the beginning after finishing.  The dots are bigger and darker to indicate how far along your current location is.

you can see this from the home page? I can only see how far along I am once I've opened the book.

Yep, all books should have a line of dots under them, with length of line being proportionate to how long the book is, and with darker/larger dots showing progress through the book.

It was that way on the K1, K2 and K3 anyway.  Haven't checked a K4 or K Touch, but I'd assume it's the same.

There's got to be a better way to organize books on a Kindle, instead of paging down a bazillion times to find the books you're looking for. I tried putting books into collections, but every time I want to make a new collection, all the books are loose again on my home page. So, each collection needs a bazillion page downs to create.

And I can't find any way to do it on my Account page. I was hoping for a drag-and-drop method on the apps, but that doesn't appear to work either. I've even checked out the Kindle Fire and that doesn't seem to have a way to organize books by subject.

Anyone have any advice on an easier/faster way to organize books, by subject, on a Kindle?

Thanks!

You guys are brilliant! I was just complaining about organizing my Kindle. It never occurred to me to try to do it on my computer. If I move the books into files, do the files show up as collections?

If you want the collections to show up on your Kindle, you need to either use Calibre, or, apparently, your Kindle for PC app to organize.  If you use the Kindle for PC, you can then import the collections from the Kindle you want them to appear on.

If you use Kindle for PC, as is being discussed in another thread, you can create Collections using your Kindle archive by drag and drop.  Then, import the collections to your Kindle, and any books already on the Kindle will be sorted into the correct collection. Unfortunately, only one at a time....

Betsy, I use Kindle for PC to organize my ebooks into collections, and I had no idea that you can drag and drop the book into collection(s) there!!! I just tried it and it works great. I've been right-clicking on the title and adding to collection(s) that way, which is very tedious.

Thank you so much for that tip! I get a lot of free books (almost 100 in the last few days alone), and this is going to make my life so much easier every day! Smiley

It definitely works that way on the K4. . .don't know about the Touch as I don't have one. . . .

Is there any way to alphabetize the collections in Kindle for PC? That would be a tremendous help, and I haven't figured out any way to do that.

Glad I could help (I've just started doing collections, so I'm hardly an expert, LOL!

As for alphabetizing collections in Kindle for PC--Not that I've been able to find.  They are in the order you created them.  I wish we could drag groups of books at once....I would drag all the books by an author into some collections.

Note that you can send feedback from within the Kindle for PC app by clicking on "Help" > Send Feedback.

I'd send feature requests to them.

Yes, group dragging and alphabetized collection titles would be two very helpful enhancements to K4PC! I like Kindle for PC software because (1) I can add archived books to collection(s) there (without actually downloading the ebook to the PC) and (2) I can see all the book covers there if I want to—in glorious color!

I don't have a PC. I have a Mac.

I've been playing with it all day, and this is as far as I've gotten:

Put all titles in folders.

Take all folders out of Documents.

Put one folder back in documents.

Go to Kindle

Create Collection (named after folder)

Click on all books to add to Collection

Take folder out of document, put another folder in, repeat.

Then take folders and re-add them to documents and hope your collections have stayed put

How do I use Calibre to make this easier?
