Folks,

we had a "whoops" on the forum this morning when one of the essential files decided to take a vaction and not tell us.  You may have noticed.  Cheesy  It IS a full moon...  Grin

Harvey restored the file from backup and we're going to keep our eyes open for system weirdness.  If you have any problems, please post a reply to this thread, I'll have it on "notify."

Thanks for your patience.

Thank goodness!  I kept getting a "fatal error line 54" message for HOURS and was going through heavy withdrawal without my morning KB fix.

Is there a general e-mail or contact site we can use to check a problem or alert Harvey or someone if there is a problem and we can't get to KB?

The system went down approximately 9AM ET and was back up at 12 PM, 3 hours later....I knew about it at 9:02 AM.  I tried some troubleshooting things that are within my abilty and then contacted Harvey at 9:12 AM.  It just took some time to figure out which file had gone bad on us.  And while I have no life (18 hours a day with KB up and running on one of my devices), Harvey actually does...  Wink

I'll talk to Harvey about a better notification system, though.  We used to have a Twitter account.  Perhaps we could revive that...

Thank you for announcing this.. I was seriously jonesing.

Tell me about it...I lost 3 of my 18 hours today.  Shocked

Hi Betsy, I am still having a major problem with this site with lagging. Takes 15-20 seconds or more for a page to come up, and typing this is even a chore as it doesn't appear until after the third word or more. Only site I am having this problem with. I do Mobileread, anythingbutipod, clubnook, and several others and only problem is HERE. Lois

Lois,

the system was rebooted this morning (twice by me before Harvey found the missing file and once since, I believe) so any server slowness should be cleared, and in fact, it's quite speedy for me.  You might try clearing your cache.  There might be cache files from earlier sessions on KB that are causing the problem.

Let me know.

I got a frantic text from Betsy at work this morning! Shocked  Unfortunately, being at work, I couldn't assist though I was able to confirm that it wasn't just her! Smiley

On the plus side, I learned that, although there's basically no signal and voice calls are but a dream, texts apparently go through just fine.

I wonder if there would be a way to set up a 'sign up for a text if there's a problem' thing?

Frantic?   Huh  How do you distinguish between a frantic text and a non-frantic text?  Grin I sent a single text asking if you could access it....just wanted confirmation that it wasn't just me. Wink

I think twitter is the way to go; I think Harvey has a twitter account for KB.

Well, since I basically never get texts from you. . . .I considered even the single one to be momentous! Grin

Though, now that you mention it, as hard as tone is to convey here with emoticons, it's even harder in a text message! Cheesy

(And, honestly, I'm not kidding about no signal in the building. . .so I was most surprised that it even came through which might have colored my interpretation. Roll Eyes )

Brainstorming is good.

Here are my thoughts:  you don't have to have a Twitter account to view a Twitter page. Non Twitter folk could visit (imaginary page) www.twitter.com/KB_Status and they would see the latest tweet with the status at the top of the page.

So in that sense, it would work as well as almost any other static page.  And people who do have Twitter accounts could retweet easily which would get the word out even farther with a ripple effect.

Facebook would work similarly--people who don't have Facebook could still see the page.  But a FaceBook page with no content other than status reports wouldn't be very good, I don't think...and none of us have time to keep a FB page with "stuff" on it up.  I barely post to mine.  But a Twitter page with just status stuff wouldn't look much different than any other Twitter page.   Smiley  My thoughts, anyway...

Still brainstorming...all ideas are good.

Betsy, this has been an ongoing problem with me, and I was talking to Patricia tonite, she is having the same problems I am with the site operating slowly, and she, like me, thought it was her computer. I clear my catch every time I get off the internet, so it is not that causing the problem. This afternoon I noted it was hanging on ... /client11.addonchat.com/, and it finally crashed. A couple other times today, IE couldn't connect to KB at all. Same thing happened a couple times yesterday. This is the only site I am having a problem with, and it has been happening for a few weeks now. Very discouraging!

Lois, I know you've been having problems for awhile, but I think the last couple of days, there have been slowdowns that have been more wide spread...I've been experiencing them, too.  We're working on it.  I'll pass your comment on, too.

One thing that happens when we get a lot of new users is that they use the search feature on the top blue menu bar, and unfortunately, site wide searches using that are a known issue for our site.  So that may be the problem that's been happening lately.

As we find out more, we'll post here...

I just spent an hour being unable to get to KindleBoards, no other websites were a problem.  Did it happen again or was it just something wonky on my end?

I've had some recurring problems yesterday and today...I've let Harvey know, but he's pretty busy right now IRL, not sure when he'll be able to get to it.  I appreciate your patience..and letting us know that you've also had problems.
