I'm having issues inserting a picture of book cover and also hyperlinks within posts. I tried to copy & paste but that didn't work. Now I'm stumped.

Could you give me an example of the problem you are having?  For example, try posting an image and let me see what's happening.

Generally, hyperlinks are a simple matter of pasting the link: http://www.kindleboards.com

Images must be hosted somewhere on the internet.  If you have the link to an image on the internet, you can paste it inside the [img] tags (tap the third button from the left above the smiley face icons).

I'd better back up a step...

Lets say I want to post a picture of the cover of "Outlander" by Diana Gabaldon. I find the image on Google images, right click to copy then back to here, click on "insert image" and I try to paste image between the two [img] 's but paste is not available.

As far as insterting a hyperlink, this is what I got. Copy and pasted a URL and this is what I got...

http://www.goodsearch.com/Image.aspx?imgurl=http://ebooks-imgs.connect.com/product/400/000/000/000/000/038/989/400000000000000038989_s4.png&thurl=http://ts3.mm.bing.net/images/thumbnail.aspx?q=1574429725378&id=c51c8b830c0f7f467ac033469ae5f564&rurl=http://ebookstore.sony.com/ebook/diana-gabaldon/outlander/_/R-400000000000000038989&tt=6130&no=1&name=Outlander by Diana Gabaldon :: Reader Store&w=319&h=500&size=NaN&type=png

Thank you so much for your help. I feel like such a dweeb!  Tongue

Well, you're doing it the hard way if you're talking about something on Amazon. Smiley The easiest way to do those is with the link-maker which gives the added benefit of making it a link which will carry the KB affiliate code so that if someone follows it to Amazon and purchases, we get a little something to keep the lights on. Smiley

But for generic pictures, here's what you do:  find it and right click it and select "copy image location"* -- or whatever is closest to that in the operating system you use.  Then paste it into your message.  Then, assuming you're using the full reply with all the buttons available, highlight the link you just pasted and click the button that looks like a teeny tiny landscape.  This will put the proper image tags at the beginning and end of the links.  You only see those when you're in the 'creating' mode. . .when you post you don't see them, just the results.  You can use 'preview' to check and see that it looks the way you want it to.

*if you just use 'copy image' it won't work.  And if you just use the page URL as it shows in the browser, it will include the whole page, not just the picture.  And in that case the image tags won't work on it.

My brain powers are dull today...

Copy and Copy Shortcut are the only options given when right clicking on a picture.

I'll fiddle with it some more and see if I can trip my way through it.

Thanks again for all your help.  Smiley

Your hyperlink seems to work correctly, the only problem there is that the link is very long so it looks messy. For a hyperlink like you did, the code looked like this:
Code:
[url]http://www.kindleboards.com[/url]
...and so displayed like this:
http://www.kindleboards.com

If instead you code it like this, putting a "display name" in:
Code:
[url=http://www.kindleboards.com]The best Kindle forum in the world![/url]
...it will display like this:
The best Kindle forum in the world!

For linking to a picture, the key thing is that what goes between the img tags is an http link, not an image file. If your picture is local to your PC you can't link to it in this way, it has to be on a web page.

So to link to an image on Amazon, as Ann explains, I went to Amazon, searched for Outlander, right clicked the image and got the http link (I use Chrome, on there it's "Copy Image URL") and pasted that into the img tags so the code looks like this:

Code:
[img]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51H6JYEgs1L._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_.jpg[/img]
...et voila!

I'm feeling like maybe then you're not using a copy-able picture. . .some are restricted.

But, what browser are you using and we'll see if we can't figure it out. . .and what site are you trying to get a picture from?

CDM--

A couple of things.

First, when you use the "copy" option, the browser thinks you want to copy the image to paste into, say, a word document.

What you need is the link to the image, to paste between the [img] tags.  "Copy" won't work, which is why you weren't getting the "paste" option--you need a link, not the digital image data.  You would probably use "copy shortcut." : )

Second, the link you are using has a redirect in it.  If you want to use that image, you need to right click on it--there should be an option to "open link in new tab."  Select that.  Then, go to that page and right click and copy the shortcut, or go to the browser url box and select all and copy.  You can then paste that in between the [img]  tags.  It should work.

However, it would still be easier to go to link-maker in the upper left hand corner, select Link-maker, type in the author name, or book title, or ASIN from Amazon, then click on Make a link, and copy the code option in the right hand side.

Hope this helps!

In the code that you have for the picture link, insert height=xxx right after "img". For example, the code [img height=125] will display your picture 125 pixels in height, which is the size of the book cover in my signature.

What Dreamweaver said.  Cheesy

However, if you are using link-maker (in the top menu group, left corner, after "Home"), the easiest way is to use the first image link option, after the text image link option. That image code comes with the height=125 already embedded.  (And 125 is the maximum height for images in one's signature.)

Let us know if you have any problems.

Thanks. Adding img=125 worked. It's not on Amazon yet (hopefully next month).

Thanks for all the help! Unfortunately I've been out of town & have not had the chance to play with inserting and image. Hopefully when the dust settles I can give it a whirl.

You can't post a picture that's only stored on your PC -- except to upload it as an avatar.  Otherwise, you'd have to upload it to a photosharing site like flickr (there are others) and link to it. . . .

Flickr is doable but sometimes people have problems because of the permissions; www.photobucket.com also works.

You upload the picture to the photo sharing website, then get the direct url to the photo on the site and paste that between the IMG tags.
